Research on Nursing

Research is essential to identify what kind of treatment options are best suited for
patients. It continues to play an important role in discovering new treatments and
ensuring that we could use existing treatments throughout the best possible way. Research
can find answers to problems that are unclear, fill knowledge gaps and change the way
medical professionals work.

Research also helps nurses respond to changes in the health care environment,
treatment modalities and regulatory changes. As researchers discover, the nursing practice
constantly changes. Information which students learn can quickly become out of date, so
being able to cope with major innovations in nursing helps graduates in their professions.

Evidence-based practice requires the use of research outccomes to guide clinical
decision-making and care. Nurses must base their work on the outcomes of their research.
Peer-reviewed, published information that is acknowledged by the nursing profession as a
whole serves as a guide and sets out best practices in the field. The key to evidence-based
practice is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. Patients expect to receive the most
effective care based on the best available evidence.

Information literacy is a skill that goes further than a basic resource of discovery.
Comprehending data transforms it from knowledge you have into knowledge that you can
truly utilize. As a nurse, you need knowledge that actually matters in your practice.
Nurses learning how to effectively process and use information from relevant research
can enhance their information literacy. Simply reading the outcomes of the research is of
little help if you don’t understand what you read. Information literacy allows nurses in
their professions to use research so that they can make informed clinical decisions.

In summary, nurses need research to help them progress their profession, stay up-to-
date as well as offer quality patient care. Information literacy skills can help nurses use
knowledge more efficiently to draw their own conclusions. Evidence-based practice is
important to nurses because it aims to provide the most effective care that is available.
Research that has been shown to be effective through studies helps nurses to better
advocate for patients and achieve the best possible medication. In all clinical contexts, the
findings of nursing research have the potential to have a direct impact on patient care.
Not only does this method improve clinical efficacy and improve quality care, but it also
enhances the personal and professional growth of nurses. It is important that nurses gain
up-to-date information and use it to improve patient care.
