1. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

1.1. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence
processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of
AI include expert system, natural language processing, speech recognition
and machine vision.

The ideal characteristic of artificial intelligence is its ability to

rationalize and take actions that have the best chance of achieving a specific
goal. A subset of artificial intelligence is machine learning, which refers to the
concept that computer programs can automatically learn from and adapt to
new data without being assisted by humans. Deep learning techniques
enable this automatic learning through the absorption of huge amounts of
unstructured data such as text, images, or video.

1.2. TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

I. Reactive machine
II. Limited memory
III. Theory of mind
IV. Self – awareness

1.2.1 Reactive machine

Reactive Machines perform basic operations. This level of AI is the simplest.
These types react to some input with some output. There is no learning that occurs.
This is the first stage to any AI system. A Machine learning that takes a human face
as input and outputs a box around the face to identify it as a face is a simple,
reactive machine. The model stores no inputs, it performs no learning.

MOFLIN AI ROBOT 2020-21
Static machine learning models are reactive machines. Their architecture is
the simplest and they can be found on GitHub repos across the web. These models
can be downloaded, traded, passed around and loaded into a developer’s toolkit
with ease.

1.2.2 Limited memory

Limited memory types refer to an A.I.’s ability to store previous data
and/or predictions, using that data to make better predictions. With Limited
Memory, machine learning architecture becomes a little more complex.
Every machine learning model requires limited memory to be created, but
the model can get deployed as a reactive machine type.

There are three major kinds of machine learning models that achieve
this Limited Memory type:

Reinforcement learning

These models learn to make better predictions through many cycles of trial and
error. This kind of model is used to teach computers how to play games like Chess,
Go, and DOTA2.

Long Short-Term Memory (LSTMs)

Researchers intuited that past data would help predict the next items in sequences,
particularly in languages, so they developed a model that used what was called the
Long Short-Term Memory. For predicting the next elements in a sequence, the
LSTM tags more recent information as more important and items further in the
past as less important.

3
MOFLIN AI ROBOT 2020-21
Evolutionary Generative Adversarial Networks (E-GAN)

It has memory such that it evolves at every evolution. The model produces a kind
of growing thing. Growing things do not take the same path every time, the paths
get to be slightly modified because statistics is a math of chance, not a math of
exactness. In the modifications, the model may find a better path, a path of least
resistance. The next generation of the model mutates and evolves towards the path
its ancestor found in error.
In a way, the E-GAN creates a simulation like how humans have evolved on this
planet. Each child, in perfect, successful reproduction, is better equipped to live an
extraordinary life than its parent.

1.2.3 Theory of mind

We have yet to reach Theory of Mind artificial intelligence types. These are
only in their beginning phases and can be seen in things like self-driving cars. In this
type of A.I., A.I. begins to interact with the thoughts and emotions of humans.

Presently, machine learning models do a lot for a person directed at

achieving a task. Current models have a one-way relationship with A.I. Alexa and
Siri bow to every command. If you angrily yell at Google Maps to take you another
direction, it does not offer emotional support and say, “This is the fastest direction.
Who may I call and inform you will be late?” Google Maps, instead, continues to
return the same traffic reports and ETAs that it had already shown and has no
concern for your distress.

1.2.4 Self - awareness

Finally, in some distant future, perhaps AI achieves nirvana. It becomes self-
aware. This kind of AI exists only in story, and, as stories often do, instills both
immense amounts of hope and fear into audiences. A self-aware intelligence
beyond the human has an independent intelligence, and likely, people will have to
negotiate terms with the entity it created. What happens, good or bad, is anyone’s
guess.

1.3. WORKING OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The basic idea of AI problem-solving is very simple, though its execution is
complicated. First, the AI robot or computer gathers facts about a situation through
sensors or human input. The computer compares this information to stored data
and decides what the information signifies. The computer runs through various
possible actions and predicts which action will be most successful based on the
collected information. Of course, the computer can only solve problems it is
programmed to solve -- it does not have any generalized analytical ability. Chess
computers are one example of this sort of machine.

Some robots can interact socially. Kismet, a robot at M.I. T’s Artificial
Intelligence Lab, recognizes human body language and voice inflection and
responds appropriately. Kismet's creators are interested in how humans and babies
interact, based only on tone of speech and visual cue. This low-level interaction
could be the foundation of a human-like learning system.

2.1 VANGUARD INDUSTRIES

VANGUARD INDUSTRIES was founded in 2016 in Tokyo, Japan, with the

mission of realizing and accelerating innovation. They create Venture Builder
businesses where we collaborate with R&D departments of large firms and
universities to develop and verify market potential for ideas and technology
prototypes that have a positive impact on the future. Their strengths lie in the
planning and implementation of innovative concepts by combining technological
elements such as software, hardware, and network. They create projects with
R&D divisions of domestic and international firms and organizations. They have
also participated in numerous international technology conferences and continue
verifying and developing concepts and businesses.

Kickstarter:
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from film,
games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious,
innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct
support of others.

Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If
people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project
succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when
time expires. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. If the project falls short of
its funding goal, no one is charged.

Backers pledge money for different reasons. Some backers are rallying
around their friends' projects. Some are supporting people they've long admired.
Many are just inspired by a new idea. Others are inspired by a project's rewards —

copy of what is being made, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to
the project. Project creators keep 100% ownership of their work. And Kickstarter
cannot be used to offer financial returns or equity, or to solicit loans. Some projects
that are funded on Kickstarter may go on to make money, but backers are
supporting projects to help them come to life, not financially profit.

2.2 FOUNDER OF MOFLIN:

FIGURE 2 FOUNDE OF MOFLIN

Born and raised in Japan, He is a competent and experienced strategic consultant,

business developer, creative director, and engineer. With a father who worked
around the world and an Indonesian mother, He was affected by a variety of foreign
cultures from a young age. He studied mechanical engineering in Osaka Prefecture
University and majored in production management and supply chain management.
After receiving a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, He started working
at IBM Japan, Ltd. (formerly IBM Business Consulting Services KK.) as a
management consultant participating in many consulting projects. In 2012, He
started his own business as a consultant and business developer for start-ups. So
far, he has delivered over 100 projects and have helped establish over 20

2.3 MOFLIN:
MOFLIN is an AI Pet created from a totally new concept. It possesses
emotional capabilities that evolve like living animals. With its warm soft fur, cute
sounds, and adorable movement, you would want to love it forever. We took a
nature inspired approach and developed a unique algorithm that allows MOFLIN to
learn and grow by constantly using its interactions to determine patterns and
evaluate its surroundings from its sensors. MOFLIN will choose from an infinite
number of mobile and sound pattern combinations to respond and express its
feelings. To put it in simple terms, it is like you are interacting with a living pet.

FIGURE 3 MOFLIN

A cute AI pet with emotions is not only targeted for specific age groups such as
children and adults, but also for everyday scenarios where one needs comfort and
healing from a loving pet. The initial concept model does not have features such as
updating software online, but with the success of this Kickstarter campaign, we
plan on making further developments so that it can eventually provide numerous
types of services and functions that will help people in their everyday lives.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, SKIT

8
MOFLIN AI ROBOT 2020-21
MOFLIN can show its emotions through an algorithm that changes based on the
feedback from the on-board sensors. These include touch sensors, microphones,
and accelerometers with gyroscopes. This means that the pet can adjust its mood
and movement based on information received by its surroundings. In fact, MOFLIN
can recognize different people based on how they interact with it. And it will
respond with movements, cute sounds, and noises inspired by real animals.

Each MOFLIN will have a unique personality Although every MOFLIN might look the
same, it certainly will not act the same. It will develop an individualist personality
that mirrors its owner, and it will develop over time, based on its environment and
interactions. Its personality and mannerisms become a result of its owner’s care. In
fact, it can relate back emotions including being anxious, happy, excited, calm, and
more. When it is time for MOFLIN to rest, using the wireless charging basket. And
this smart robot will continue to move, breathe, and make sounds while recharging.
In addition, this pet robot features Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. It will also come with
an app for iOS and Android, although the company has not released any
information on the app’s capabilities now.

2.4 TECHNOLOGY
Possesses feelings
1. Possesses a 2-Dimensional Emotion Expression Map.
2. Emotions move across the map as a reaction to its relationship with humans
and hence it interacts like a living animal.

Has its own personality

Could have a cheerful personality that easily moves towards the "Happy"
spectrum, or it could have an easygoing personality that does not deviate much
from the "Secure" or " Calm" spectrum of the emotion map. Could have any
personality.

Evolves, acclimates, and gets attached

1. Will evolve through time.
2. Will realize that different people have different ways of interacting and
expressing and will acclimate accordingly.

MOFLIN AI ROBOT 2020-21

They were able to make MOFLIN closer to a living animal by allowing it to develop
and express its own emotions through its internal emotion map, and by creating an
algorithm that analyzes changes in their environment through sensors. MOFLIN will
show its emotions through cute sounds and movement made possible by an
actuator. Their personality will depend on the environment and how their owners
treat them. Hence, they have an AI pet that will evolve and develop its own unique
personality. They believe technology that realizes concepts and improves everyday
life, has emotional value.

2.6 ROAD MAP

This project was formed through a partnership between Vanguard Industries
and the R&D department of a large firm. From the get-go, we wanted to create
something that felt real, cute, “Kawaii,” and worthy of becoming a person’s
partner. They believed that MOFLIN feeling love and giving love to others was an
important factor towards the application of various ICT technologies and as a touch
point to our everyday lives. After internal review, in November 2019, they
presented MOFLIN at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal.

3. CONCLUSION

AI is at the center of a new enterprise to build computational models of

intelligence. The main assumption is that intelligence (human or otherwise) can
be represented in terms of symbol structures and symbolic operations which can
be programmed in a digital computer. Aspects of intelligent behavior, such as
solving problems, making inferences, learning, and understanding language, have
already been coded as computer programs, and within very limited domains, such
as identifying diseases of soybean plants, AI programs can outperform human
experts. Now the great challenge of AI is to find ways of representing the
commonsense knowledge and experience that enable people to carry out
everyday activities such as holding a wide-ranging conversation or finding their
way along a busy street. Conventional digital computers may be capable of
running such programs, or we may need to develop new machines that can
support the complexity of human thought.
