Digital Fan Controller Unit - 700-00013-0
Controller ‘FLASH’
programming tool:
The controller is able to be re-programmed in the field if needed to meet individual OEM
requirements or to allow Denison Hydraulics Inc. to upgrade the products operation if a
technical benefit is developed.
NO extra external equipment is needed by the user / OEM except for a standard Opto-Link
interface unit ( 700-00012-0 ) and the associated software that will be provided as required.
In the event of the ‘FLASH’ memory needing upgrading, Denison Hydraulics Inc. will provide
the five ( 5 ) files necessary to allow the process.
Typically these will be as shown below:-
Data file for the new ‘FLASH’ ‘FLASH’ programming executable

The executable program should be found and ‘RUN’.

The data file is stored in the same directory as the Pic_load.EXE and will be found
automatically by the program as shown below.
These two windows open and appear

as soon as the executable is run.
Double ‘click’ the file name or click

once and press Save button to import
the data file into the FLASH loader.

Once the data file has been found, accepted,

checked and loaded into the program, the
software will then poll all the available PC
communications ports looking for an active
Opto-Link interface and a compatible fan
controller unit. When these are found, the
display will present a large ‘Green’ button
with ‘GOOD’ above it indicating that re-
programming can commence.
The On-Screen instructions should now be
followed to allow re-programming to take
place..
When the ‘Program’ ( red ) button is pushed,

the On-Screen instructions will change and a
‘Blue’ bar will advance across the screen in
the ‘Completion Status’ window.
NOTE:-
This process may take several minutes to
complete with the Blue bar showing progress
to the User / OEM.
When the re-programming is completed, the

On-Screen display will notify the user / OEM
and the Blue progress bar will be fully across
as shown.
The program should be exited using the
Orange button marked ‘ Exit Application’ to
clear the PC communications port correctly
and allow it to be used by the DFC set-up
software.

Special precautions for ‘FLASH’ upgrade:-
1) The Opto-Link MUST be fitted with a new battery or powered externally to ensure operation
during the process.
2) The user / OEM undertaking the re-programming MUST NOT attempt to use the controller
during the upgrade process.
3) The hydraulics must be put into an assured safe condition such that NO unexpected operation
can take place.
4) Re-programming should ONLY be carried out for special OEM software or if advised to do so
by Denison Hydraulics Inc. engineering support personnel.
5) Only have ONE program for the fan controller unit ( PIC loader OR DFC set-up ) running at
any one time or communications port conflicts will occur.
6) Understand the full procedure BEFORE attempting re-programming.
IMPORTANT NOTE:-
The programming / upgrade should NOT be stopped or interrupted for any reason once started
or the controller memory will be permanently corrupted and will make the controller un-usable.
If this happens, return the unit to Denison Hydraulics Inc. for it to be fully re-programmed,
checked and tested.
