Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation 10

QUANTITY SURVEYING &

COST ESTIMATION
CE-372
Nov-14 Composite Rate – Example

COMPOSITE RATES
2

 Schedule rates based on quantities from approved

drawings are worked out for different items of a single job
and are added together to give a single composite rate for
all items.

 It gives composite cost per unit length/area/volume etc.

 Total cost of the composite work can be found by

multiplying unit composite rate by total quantity.

 Examples: Composite rates for Roof Insulation, Steel Grills,

Road , Footpaths, Floors etc.

JOB RATES
3

 It is like composite rates but its unit is per number or each

instead of per unit area/volume as in composite rates.

 For jobs that are independent and contains many minor

items/details, separate estimates/taking off sheets are
prepared and job rate for the whole “job” is worked out.
Consolidated Job rate is then used in main estimate for
costing and its detail workings are also attached with the
main estimate.

JOB RATES
4

 Job rates are prepared for specific jobs based on approved

drawings whose number is also mentioned in the job rate.

 Particular Job Rate can only be applicable to any other

project if same drawings of that job are being used in the
other project also.

 Job Rates preparation saves time and efforts of the

estimators.

 Examples: Job rates for Septic Tanks, Soakage Wells,

Soakage Pits, Valve pits , OHWTs, UGWTs etc.

Problem-4: Kerbstones - MES Specifications

Kerb Stones:- The Kerb Stones shall have min 28 days Cylinder
Compressive Strength of 21 MPa (3000 psi). It shall be cast
using Plant Mix Concrete with proper shuttering and compaction
arrangements to ensure strength, finish and quality. The Kerb
Stones are marketed in various sizes, shapes and qualities.
However, for the purpose of this Schedule, the rates have been
worked out for following specifications of Kerb Stones given in
Table 3-8:-
