San Andreas Movie Reflection

San Andreas is a disaster film which focused on the centers on an earthquake caused by the San Andreas
Fault devastating Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. It was known to form the tectonic
boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. A previously unknown fault near the
Hoover Dam in Nevada ruptures and jiggles the San Andreas. Southern California was then rocked by a
powerful magnitude-9.1 quake followed by an even stronger magnitude-9.6 in Northern California. At
the beginning of the movie, Dwayne Johnson known as Ray in the movie, is part of the Los Angeles Fire
Department Air Rescue who saved a girl who got stuck with her car between the trench of two
mountain. He immediately conducts a rescue mission to save the girl. The movie then continues when
we were introduced to Dr. Lawrence Hayes who is doing research to learn better how to predict
earthquakes. He is at the Hoover Dam when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake rips through the area and the
dam breaks. As the natural disaster gets worse Ray was called in to respond and rescue. Furthermore,
buildings collapsed, the earth gapes wide open and a tsunami inundates the city. This is when Ray
realized that he needs to find and rescue his own family, especially his daughter. The movie ended after
the main character rescued his family and the disaster has already stopped. This movie taught us that
natural disasters may come even in the most unexpected time. This is the reason why the subject
Geography is important. It is to further familiar ourselves that these disasters do happen and what
causes or triggers them to happen. It will help us understand the risk of the areas that may face danger
during earthquake hazards. We need to be aware on where the fault lines are and how they behave. If
one is familiar about the different locations of active faults, it can help prevent or mitigate the effects of
unpredictable earthquakes by avoiding the building of infrastructures near faultlines.
