PLAN TUCSON
CITY OF TUCSON’S NEW GENERAL PLAN INTRODUCTORY MEETINGS
The City of Tucson is preparing a new General Plan, called Plan Tucson, and when completed, it will replace the City’s
existing General Plan. General plans, which are required by state law, provide policies to guide decision making in the
many areas important to a well functioning city, from jobs, housing, and education to land use, transportation, and natural
resources.

State law also requires that Tucson’s General Plan be readopted or a new General Plan adopted by Mayor and Council and
ratified by voters every 10 years. The City has chosen to prepare a new General Plan because it offers an opportunity to
take a close look at how Tucson has been developing physically, economically, and socially over the past decade.
Preparing a new General Plan will also help determine whether recent development reflects key policies adopted over the
past decade, and to incorporate lessons learned from use of the existing general plan.

On March 22, 2011, the Mayor and Council approved the public participation program for Plan Tucson. This program
begins with public meetings throughout the city to introduce the purpose of Plan Tucson and the process for its
preparation. As a foundation on which to build Plan Tucson, participants will be invited to review community aspirations
identified through other public outreach efforts over the past decade and to indicate those aspirations they share and others
they would like to add.

The schedule for the six General Plan introductory meetings being held in April is:
