Nithyasree mam, we all know you as a well-known Carnatic singer.

Tell us about your first performance.

Before you answer that can you sing a patriotic song with your gorgeous voice mam
please?
NM Sure

SONG – Paarukullea nalla nadu ….

RJ Thank you mam.. Tell us about your first public performance
NM My first public Carnatic performance was at the age of 14.

It was 1 hour concert which was held for the Youth Association For Classical Music
in 1987 (its almost more than 30 years now).

Prominent Carnatic musicians present during the concert included Smt. D. K.

Pattammal (my grandmother), Shri D. K. Jayaraman (my grand-uncle), as well as
the chief guest at that concert, Shri K. V. Narayanaswamy.

As always said “practice makes the man perfect” I took 2 months practice for my first
public performance.

Before my first concert my father advised me to always keep in mind that I’m
carrying the legacy of the 2 pillars of the Carnatic music… my grandmother Smt. D.
K. Pattammal and my grand-uncle Shri D. K. Jayaraman. Even now when I
commence to sing his words flash through my mind and make me give my best
performance

What is the song you most admire and request your grandmother to sing for you?
NM “Theeratha vilayathu pilla…” This is the song I often ask my grandmother Smt. D. K.
Pattammal who is my Guru as well.

Her voice will carry us to the scene where Krishna with his friends does the naughty
things. I really love listening as well as singing that song

RJ Ananya Mam, you are a famous playback singer in Kanada film industry.

When we think of Ananya the immediate song that sticks all of us is “Sojugada
Sooju Mallige..”.

The one you sung on Mahashivaratri event held by Isha foundation. Kindly share
your experience in singing that song during that event
AB This is a folk song on the Mahadeshwara beautifully written on lord Shiva in
Kanada. With Sadguru’s blessing I got an opportunity to sing this song on
the Mahashivaratri event held by Isha foundation which I think is a blessed
moment.

I enjoyed the most singing this song on that event and Sadguru and the audience as
well enjoy the song.

Ananya Mam, we see that you are more inclined towards folks song. What inspired
you more towards folks songs?
AB It all started when we released the song Sojugada Sooju Mallige online, which was
well received. That gave me the motivation to form my own band named “Ananya
Bhat Concerts”

I felt there is a need to protect and keep the folks stories alive for future generations,
so I decided to establish my band, which will present folk songs in newer musical
avatars with bit of jazz, rock and other creative fusion possibilities

Nithyasree mam, In your Journey with Carnatic Music we also see you as playback
singer in film industry.

Especially all the songs you sung in Cine are Carnatic based. How do you choose
them?
NM My first song in Cine Industry was “Kannodu kanpatheyllam” from the movie Jeans.

A.R Raham sir gave this opportunity which brought be to the lime light
Most of the songs which I sang in Cine industry are all Carnatic based which suits
my high pitch voice.

I always get this opportunity which fits my pitch, hence am able to give my best
there
RJ Kannodu kanpatheyllam.. is one of my favorite.. can you sing 2 lines for me
exclusively mam please?
NM Sure, my pleasure…
