COURSE SYLLABUS IN ENGLISH IX

Course Description:
Language in Literature 9, K to 112 Second Edition instructional work text features to foster Filipino students a
better understanding and appreciation of Anglo American roots, custom, tradition, visions, and aspiration
through the study of British and American literacy sections.

Furthermore it connects students to current affairs, issue, and concern through the theme based informative text
that are interwoven with the thematic value of literacy event of the period.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Language in Literature IX, K to 12 Second Edition instructional work text has the following features:

 Fosters in Filipino students a better understanding and appreciation of the Angelo-American roots,
customs, traditions, visions, and aspirations through the study of British and American Literary selections.
 Connects students to current affairs, issues, and concerns through team-based informative texts (news
reports, autobiographies, journals, editorials, debate speeches, essays, and research articles) that are
interwoven with the thematic value of the literary events of the period.
 Develop student’s inquisitive mind, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills which can help them
become lifelong learners through the Unit and Lesson Openers that present Big ideas and essential
Questions and the sections Prepare to Read, Sharing Insights, and Literary Skill
 Hones the student’s macro skills and other communication skills through differentiated instruction and
engaging text-based and electronic-based provided in the sections on reading, vocabulary, listening,
viewing, speaking, study and research, grammar, and writing.
 Provides student opportunities to transfer learning in real world communicative tasks through the GRASPS-
formatted authentic tasks that make them use rubrics for self and peer assessments.
 Helps student define learning goals and chart direction through Unit Learning Assessments that allow them
avenues for synthesizing what they have learned and reflecting on how and why they have to come to such
learning.
