Procedure of Battery Destructive Test

Tentative schedule: start on Tuesday, 16 February 2021.

Object: 75% used battery, quantity: 24 cells.

Condition of simulation:

1. Cubicle temperature  higher.

2. Charging voltage  normal.

Target: to destruct the battery (battery bulging or internal resistance increasing).

Time Description Remarks

Day 1 1. Check Battery condition (internal Less than. 10hrs.
resistance/cell)
2. Measure dimension of the battery
3. Check visual battery condition & type of
battery
4. Check voltage battery/cell
5. Then charging (2.3V/cell, current C10)

Day 2 Discharge the battery (current C10) until

Voltage/cell = 1V, room temperature 30degC.

Day 3 Standby.
Measure:
1. Internal Resistance of battery/cell.
2. Voltage battery/cell (no charging and
discharging).
3. Temperature battery/cell
4. Temperature room
5. Check have alarm or not in battery charger
during discharging process
Day 4 1. Charging the battery. Less than. 10hrs.
Temperature room increased to 32 degC,
2.3V/cell, current C10
2. Check have alarm or not in battery charger
3. Check voltage battery/cell every 2 hours
4. Check temperature battery every 2 hours
Day 5 Discharge the battery (current C10) until
Voltage= 1V, temperature 32degC.

Measure:
1. Internal Resistance of battery/cell.
2. Voltage battery/cell (no charging and
discharging).
3. Temperature battery/cell
4. Temperature room
5. Dimension for each battery
6. Check have alarm or not in battery charger
during discharging process
Day 6 Recharge the battery until 4 hours use floating voltage
Measure:
1. Internal Resistance of battery/cell.
2. Voltage battery/cell (no charging and
discharging).
3. Temperature battery/cell
4. Temperature room
5. Dimension for each battery

Target battery destruct on Day 6 (expected the batter

will be bulged or internal resistance increase).
If target not achieved, so the cycle will be repeated.

Notes from the discussion:

1. Avatec and Energitama do not have similar trouble experience.

2. If one battery bulging or internal resistance increase will be affected to other battery
performance.
3. Avatec will share data reference for the relation between:
a. Internal resistance (mΩ) vs capacity (Ah)
b. Internal resistance (mΩ) vs number of cycle (charging-discharging cycles)
c. Internal Resistance (mΩ) vs voltage battery cell (V)
4. Energitama will do battery destruct simulation test.
5. Internal Resistance Battery:
a. Need check Internal Resistance with individual temperature battery cell.
b. If Internal Resistance increase, the charger can not charge the battery normally.
c. When over discharge, that cause Internal Resistance and temperature battery cell
increase.
d. Higher Internal Resistance can result in reduced battery capacity.
6. Point No. 3 is a recommendation from Avatec to check the health of the battery cell.

Online discussion on 8 February 2021.
