DESIGN BASIS
L&T Construction Public Health and Municipal
Water and Effluent Treatment IC –Wastewater BU Engineering Department
This document covers the design of Centrifuge House & MCC Room at Allipuram.
a) Main structure which consists of Beams, Columns, Floor slab, Grade slab and
Staircase.
b) Cable trench
The water retaining structures have been designed as limited cracked section for 0.2mm
crack width and non-water retaining components are designed in limit state method.
The Following primary loads are considered in the design of the structure
a) Dead Loads:
b) Live loads:
c) Wind Loads:
1.3) References:
IS: 456 - 2000 – Code of practice for Plain and Reinforced concrete
Net safe bearing capacity is considered as 100kN/sqm at a foundation depth of 3.0 meter
below from Natural Ground Level.
The minimum clear cover to reinforcement in all R.C.C structures shall be as per
IS456:2000 (Clause 26.4, Page no. 46) &IS 3370 (part 1 to 3).
Below ground 40
The structures comprises of R.C.C beams, columns, R.C.C structural floors, Grade Slabs and
foundation. All beam column joints are rigid and the foundation is assumed to be pinned.
The Main floors are made as reinforced concrete spanning between RC beams, which are
carried by RC-columns. RC.C slabs are provided to avoid torsion in beams.
RC.C beams are fixed / continuous for main beams & simply supported / continuous for
secondary beams. RC.C beams carry vertical loads & moments.
All columns (RC.C) carry axial loads, lateral loads & moments.

The loading combinations are considered in the design of structures in accordance with the
Stipulations in the relevant design codes. The load combinations are mentioned below.
• 1.0DL + 1.0LL
• 1.0DL ± 1.0WL(X)
• 1.0DL ± 1.0WL(Z)
• 1.0DL + 0.8LL ± 0.8 WL(X)
• 1.0DL + 0.8LL ± 0.8 WL(Z)
• 1.5DL + 1.5LL
• 1.5DL ± 1.5WL(X)
• 1.5DL ± 1.5WL(Z)
• 1.2DL + 1.2LL ± 1.2WL(X)
• 1.2DL + 1.2LL ± 1.2WL(Z)
• 0.9DL ± 1.5WL(X)
• 0.9DL ± 1.5WL(Z)
Where,
DL –Dead Load
LL – Live Load
WL(X) – Wind load in X-Direction
WL(Z) – Wind load in Z-Direction
