Good communication=Good care
 Effective physician patient communication is an integral
part of clinical practice.

 Communication incorporates both verbal and non verbal


interaction between physician & patient .

 Doctor patient communication is heart and art of medicine.


 You should be able to communicate to patient

- Listen attentively & Patiently

-Respectfully

-Non threatening

-Non judgmental

-Empathetic

-Use of open ended questions


Good Communication
 Doctor’s communication encompass the ability to gather
information in order to facilitate accurate diagnosis,
counseling ,giving therapeutic instruction and establishing
the repo

 Core clinical skills in practice of medicine with the


ultimate goal of achieving best outcome and patient
satisfaction.
Communicating bed news
 Effective communication has shown to influence a wide
array of outcomes including
-Emotional health
-Symptoms resolution
-Function
-Pain control
-Physiologic measures such as blood pressure level
Effective communication
-Increasing patient satisfaction
-leading to greater patient understanding of health
problems and treatment available
-Contributing to better adherence to treatment
plans
- We can provide support and reassurance to
patients.
 To having effective communication, it is important that
medical decisions stem from collaborative process between
physicians and patients.

 Decision making is a process in which patients should be


involved from the very beginning , and the results is a
decision which reflects the physician medical knowledge as
well as the patient’s value and belief .
