NATIONAL BOOK WEEK


(November 26 – 27, 2020)
I. Rationale:

The Victoria Catholic School of Tarlac, INC is committed to its mission of


building, nurturing and promoting love for reading, and fostering professional growth
and performance of its members, the administration believe that despite of the
pandemic COVID 19, VCSians will be able to participate and support each program
of the school and should be catalysts of reforms, changes and transformations in the
New Normal Environment amidst pandemic situations. In response to the challenges
brought about by this pandemic, the VCS will be holding its first ever online event
on November 26-27, 2020, is the celebration of 86th National Book Week with the
theme “LIBRARIES AS CATALYSTS IN THE NEW NORMAL ENVIRONMENT:
CHANGES. REFORMS. TRANSFORMATION”.

II. Objectives:

a. Allow students to pursue interests outside of a standardized academic contexts for


the new normal environment.
b. Showcase best practices on innovations, changes, reforms and transformations
among stakeholders to adapt the new normal environment
c. Arousing the national interest in reading good books and to insure greater
participation of the public, various libraries, and educational institutions, the
program of celebration was so designed to include the essay and poster contests,
slogan making and character portraying.

 POSTER MAKING CONTEST

The participants from elementary department will starts at 1:00 to 2:30 in the afternoon
and Junior High School participants will starts at 7:45 to 9:15 in the morning via zoom
on November 23, 2020.

Mechanics:
1. The poster making contest is open to ALL VCSians
2. Participants will be register via google form:

3. The poster and slogan should be a visualization of the 2020 National Book

CHANGES, REFORMS, TRANSFORMATION.
4. The following materials to be used in the contest:
Manual:
a. Use white illustration board, ¼ in size.
b. Contestants may use any medium: oil pastel/cray-pas, markers, ink, mixed
media, oil, acrylic and watercolor
5. Entries must be original and unpublished.
6. All artwork will be posted in the Facebook page of the Victoria Katoliko and
the announcement of winners will be held on November 27, 2020 together with
their certificates
Criteria for judging:
Originality - 35%
Relevance to the theme - 35%
Pictorial design and composition - 20%
Technique - 10%
Total - 100%

 SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST

The participants from elementary department will starts at 2:30 to 4:00 in the afternoon and
Junior High School participants will starts 9:15 to 10:45 in the morning via zoom on
November 23, 2020.

 KOMIKS WRITING CONTEST


Teacher-in-Charge/ facilitator in Junior High School department: Mr. Jhun Jhun Fernandez and
Mr. Stephen Wayne Gambito

All participants in the komiks making contest will be held via zoom on November 24, 2020
at 7:45 to 9:15 in the morning.

Mechanics:
1. The komiks making contest is open to Grade 7-10, High school students.

3. The topic of Komiks writing contest is “The Relevance of Book Reading in my
Personal and Professional Life”
4. Participants are encouraged to create their own komiks with original characters
and story with a minimum length of 2 pages.

2nd page for the content
a. Manually drawn work is accepted.
b. short bond paper

Criteria for Judging:


Story - 30%
(flow, character development, originality, creativity)
Art - 30%
(overall quality of illustration, coloring, shading, line detail, backgrounds, etc.)
Lettering - 20%
(Dialogue and placement, flow, appropriateness, etc.)
Overall impact of work - 20%

 ESSAY WRITING CONTEST


Teacher-in-Charge/ facilitator in Junior High School department: Ms. Eirika Joy L. Guiam and
Ms. Junella Cullado

Junior High School participants in Essay writing contest will be held via zoom at 9:15 to
10:15 in the morning on November 24, 2020 while the All Elementary VCSians will have
their storytelling at 1:30 – 2:30 in the afternoon together with their facilitator, Sir Dave
Gamido.

Mechanics:
1. The essay writing contest is open to Grades 7-10 High School students
2. Participants will be register via google form:

b. Filipino
5. The essay must not be more than 300 words, legibly written on paper for those
who prefer to submit it via mail or encoded on a word document file (Font size 12,
Arial )
6. Entries must be original and unpublished.
7. The winning entries will be sent to the facilitator or the teacher in charge in the
said contest and he/she will send it directly to Victoria katoliko page.

Criteria for Judging:


Content (concepts, relevance to the theme, etc.) -
40%
Organization (clarity, grammar, structure, composition, etc.) -
30%
Style (word play, voice, literary techniques, etc.) -
30%

8. The entry to be submitted should be an original work of the student. If the
participant is proven to have committed plagiarism in any way, even if
unintentional, he/she will be disqualified or, if the unethical act was discovered
after the contest, then the award and certificate will be revoked.
9. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placers will be awarded on November 27, 2020.

 STORYTELLING
There will be one facilitator for each department. VCSians will have a biblical storytelling
as scheduled and the attendance is a must.

 CULMINATING OF NATIONAL BOOK WEEK


Since students are not allowed to go outside. On November 27, 2020, we will be having a
virtual culminating of 86th National Book Week with the theme “Libraries as Catalysts in
the New Normal Environment: Changes. Reforms. Transformation”.

After the facilitators collect all the pictures and videos of Spoken word poetry and
Character Portrayal, they will send it to the DVC adviser for editing. VCSians works will
be posted in the Facebook page of Victoria Katoliko and the announcement of winners in
each contest will be held afterwards.
