As discussed in section 2.5.5, damage factors or load equivalency factors have been
calculated using following two approaches, i-e AASHTO 1993 and Road Note 40. The
average damage factors calculated for major axle configuration are presented in
Table 8-13.

The average damaging factors at each station along National Highway N-5 are
tabulated in Table 8-14. The results provide a comprehensive description of locations
where maximum overloading is being followed and vice versa. The results will help in
pavement design for rehabilitation and maintenance of existing roadway and for new
one.

8.1.14 Tire Pressure Measurements on National Highway N-5

The tires of overloaded vehicles are over-inflated far in excess of their normal
pressure. The Consultants site teams have checked tire pressure of each truck
weighed during the survey. The average tire pressure value of front and rear axles of
trucks plying on National Highway N-5 is listed in Table 8-15.

8.2 National Highway N-10

Makran Coastal Highway officially known as N-10, extends along Pakistan's Arabian
Sea coast from Karachi in Sindh province to Gwadar in Balochistan province,
extending up to a length of 653 km. Prior to the construction of the Makran Coastal
Highway in 2004, the port city of Karachi was linked to the port town of Gwadar via an

uncarpeted "jeep" or "dirt" track, however after its completion the average journey
time between Karachi and Gwadar has been reduced to only 6 to 7 hours. The results
of axle load survey performed on National Highway N-10 are discussed in
subsequent sub-sections.

The percentage of trucks for major axle configurations surveyed on National Highway
N-10 is summarized in Table 8-16 and is graphically presented in Figure 8-9.
