8.3.13 Damage Factor for Major Axle Configuration on National Highway

N-15
As discussed in section 2.5.5, damage factors or load equivalency factors have been
calculated using following two approaches, i-e AASHTO 1993 and Road Note 40. The
average damage factors calculated for major axle configuration are presented in
Table 8-43.

The average damaging factors at each station along National Highway N-15 are
tabulated in Table 8-44. The results provide a comprehensive description of locations
where maximum overloading is being followed and vice versa. The results will help in
pavement design for rehabilitation and maintenance of existing roadway and for new
one.

8.3.14 Tire Pressure Measurements on National Highway N-15

The tires of overloaded vehicles are over-inflated far in excess of their normal
pressure. The Consultants site teams have checked tire pressure of each truck
weighed during the survey. The average tire pressure value of front and rear axles of
trucks plying on National Highway N-15 is listed in Table 8-45.

8.4 National Highway N-25

The N-25 National Highway or RCD Highway connects Balochistan with a number of
provinces and cities in Pakistan. Its total length of 813 km is divided into 790 km in
Balochistan and the remaining 23 km in the Sindh. The results of axle load survey
performed on National Highway N-25 are discussed in subsequent sub-sections.

8.4.1 Distribution of Vehicles by Axle Configuration on National

Highway N-25
The percentage of trucks for major axle configurations surveyed on National Highway
N-25 is summarized in Table 8-46 and is graphically presented in Figure 8-25.

The statistical analysis comprising minimum, maximum and average loads per axle
carried by trucks of major axle configuration along with standard deviation and
variance is presented in Table 8-47. The minimum, maximum and average loads are
graphically presented in Figure 8-26 and Figure 8-27 respectively.

8.4.3 Load Spectrum by Axle Configuration on National Highway N-25

The axle load survey data was organized in a way to identify the number of vehicles
carrying load above and below permissible limits. Furthermore, load spectrums were
identified and number of vehicles carrying load in specified spectrums were
calculated. The results are tabulated in Table 8-48. The percentage of trucks for

8.4.4 Rear Axle Load Spectrum (Single) on National Highway N-25

The damaging effect of front axle on pavement structure is negligible. The rear axles
including single, tandem and tridem have significant effect on the road deterioration.
The spectrum of rear axle loads (single) for all axle configurations is presented in
