INTRODUCTION
SETTLEMENTS

Settlement refers to the physical spaces and

environments in which households are sheltered,
and how one shelter relates to others. The term is
generally used in the context of displaced
populations to describe the temporary or
sometimes permanent living arrangements of
displaced families. HYPOTHESIS
In simpler term, settlement is a place where
people live and interact .
QUESTION :
Settlement in geography helps us to understand
the relationship of human with their enviroments. Most senior citizens of a
country lives in rural
settlements.
Reason : Most aged people like to live
a quiet life as they are already retired.
Living in an isolated or small town area
will have low cost of living which is
enough for them to afford.

Settlements can be categorized in 2

types:
1) Rural settlements
rural settlement is where displaced
populations settle on land outside of
cities and towns. The population is
often dependent on agricultural and
pastoral practices, and has fewer
community infrastructure systems than
in urban settlements.

2) Urban settlements
An Urban settlement is a concentrated
settlement that constitutes or is part of
an urban area. It is an area with high
density of human-created structures.
These geometrical patterns are
usually in squares and rectangles and
are well laid out.
