Typical resistors for power system neutral earthing applications at 11kV and 33kV were proven by type tests at the independent testing authority CES! of Italy. RANGE OF STAINLESS STEEL POWER RESISTORS Neutral Earthing Resistors (NER) © Motor Starting/Traction Resistors © Load Banks AISI 430 and AISI 304 grades of stainless steel are offered. CONSTRUCTION AND TESTS Resistor Grids The grids are designed on computers which are linked to sophisticated numerically controlled power presses. The stainless steel sheets are precisely cut into the required patterns with an accuracy of + 5%. Stringent quality control is enforced throughout the manufacturing process and the grid resistance is measured periodically to ensure it remains within the designed tolerance. Resistor Banks The grids are assembled on two steel rods. Each grid is insulated from the adjacent grids and from the rods by ceramic insulators. The grids are connected in series using stainless steel bolts to form a resistor bank, and the bank is secured at both ends by double bolts to form a shock-resistant and vibration-proof assembly. This construction makes the resistor banks suitable for installation in onerous operating environments such as cranes, locomotives and on board ships.SAFE, RELIABLE, COMPACT AND MAINTENANCE FREE Enclosure and Assembly Made of high grade mild steel sheets, cut and folded on numerically controlled machin- ery, and strengthened by welding where necessary, the cubicle parts undergo con- trolled pretreatment before being coated with an alkyd melamine paint using an Electro- Deposition system. The painted parts are then oven baked. This paint system gives the best protection and finish amongst the various paint systems used for switchgear manufacture around the world, The paintwork passes with ease the 1000 hour salt spray test under the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test No B117, which Tameo guarantee. Standard colour: semigloss light grey. The standard enclosure is built to IP23 (IEC 529), but other degrees of protection up to IP45 can be provided. Inside the enclosure, the resistor banks are mounted on strong cast resin insulators and steel brackets to form a rigid stack. The current carrying parts are connected by copper busbars. Depending on require- ments, indoor or outdoor, top or bottom terminations can be provided. Routine Factory Tests The power resistors are inspected and tested by Tamco's quality control and test engi neers to ensure their compliance to specifi cations. Routine factory tests include: insulation resistance test, power frequency applied voltage withstand test, and resis- tance measurement. Test results are re- corded and checked against the resistor grid manufacturer's (Telema's) documenta- tion before despatch.
