Activity: Making plans for the future


Time: 30 minutes

Objective:

• To recognize and use the grammar and expressions of the future simple form of “be going to”.

Materials:

• Pens/pencils
• Worksheet

Procedure:

1. Make pairs or groups of 3 or 4.

2. After being attentive to the teacher’s explanation about the future simple using “be going to”, you and your
team will be able to answer this worksheet.

Expected conclusions:

1. Learners remember some vocabulary the have already acquire from their basic education
2. People try to use some words they know to create answers
3. The instructor can make a diagnosis based on the learner’s performance.

Imagine it is the year 2050. Answer the questions below about the future you using “be going to”:

1. How old are you going to be in 2050?


R/: Oscar will be 44 years old

Laura will be 44 years old

Alison will be 44 years old

2. What are you going to look like?


Laura: In 2050 I see myself having a professional career, a home and a happy life.
Alison: I will be practicing my career, which will probably be as a lawyer, and I would have bought my
mom's house by now.
Oscar:
3. Where are you going to live?
Alison: I see myself living in Asia or whatever.
Oscar: I see myself living in usa
Laura: in argentina
4. What job are you going to have? Where are you going to work?
Alison: In the future I see myself working in a law firm and anywhere in the world.
Oscar: I see myself working in the armed forces
Laura: i want to have a job as a psychologist
5. Are you going to have a family? If so, how many children are you going to have?
Alison: I don't want to have children in the future.
Oscar: I do not want to have children
Laura: In the future if I want to have children and only 1.
6. What else can you tell us about your future?
Alison: I can say that in my future I will see myself focused on my work and my goals that will remain.
Oscar: I want to live peacefully and be able to go wherever I want
Laura: Traveling a lot

What predictions can you make in these situations? Use the words: be sick, crash, get wet, lose, not stop, rain.

Example: The sky is full of dark clouds: It’s going to rain.

1. Now it’s starting to rain. There’s nowhere to shelter and you don’t have an umbrella: that's why he's going
to be sick.
2. You feel awful. There’s a terrible feeling in your stomach: if you don't take something, it won't stop.
3. You are playing snooker. The game is nearly over and you are 100 points behind: however, it started to
rain.
4. You can see an airplane coming down. It’s out of control and falling to the ground: you are about to crash.
