1) SOlvin
System of equations
••
g simult aneous equation graphically
What you need to know:
o Solution of an equation with two variables: this is an ordered pair that makes the
equation a true statement. Intercepts are obtained by equating x = 0 and solving fory,
'then equate y = 0 and solving for x. These are the easiest points to plot if the line does not
pass [though the origin. if ihe line passes through the origin, then choose any value tbr x and
solve for y, or choose any value fory and solve for,x.
o Finding intersection of two graphs: The point of intersection of the two lines is the only
point in the plane such that for the same value ofx (ory) the equations have the same
of
value of y (or x). If one equation is a multiple of the other, they have infinite points
t of
intersection; if this is not the case but they have the same gradient, they have no poin :
intersection. In'all other cases, there will be a unique point of intersection.
-Ow

Solve the following system of equations graphically using the same graph below.
Ly=2x,3x +y= 10
2.x+3y=0,x-3y=6 3.3x + 5y = 15,3x + 5y = 30
