Summer Class 2020

NR 202 – Activity 3

Name: Rubio, Shielamae

ID Number: 2021373
Professor: Genelyn R. Baluyos, MAEd

Activity 3

1. Using stratified sampling technique , compute the sample size using 5% margin
of error for each school. 15 pts.

School Population Percentage Sample size

A 800 (800/4200)*100=19 19*365=69

B 500 12 44

C 1000 24 88

D 1250 30 109

E 650 15 55

Total N 4200 100 365

Sample Size (n)

n= ?
N= 4200
e= 5%
Slovin’s Formula

4200
n=
1 + 4200 (0.05)²

4200
n=
1 + 4200 (0.0025)

4200
n=
1+10.5

4200
n=
11.5

n = 365

Steps:
1. Read first the slides on Collection and Presentation of Data (ppt.).
2. On slides # 35 to 37 uploaded in Class Materials, you can find same example on this
activity. Use it as your guide.
3. Get first the total N or population.
4. Compute the sample size or n using Slovin formula or Raosoft sample size calculator
available in search engines.
5. Compute the percentage for each school in the percentage column.
6. To get the sample size for each school, multiply the percentage in decimal form by the
result of the sample size ,n. Make sure that the total of the sample size is equal to the
computed sample size. That’s how you compute your sample size. Congrats.

2. Test the validity and reliability of the data attached in excel format. (20 pts)

Questions :
1. Is the instrument valid? Why?
Yes. The instrument is valid because the items presented are adequately reflect the
process.

2. Copy and paste the data in reliability data sheet to your minitab software.
Perform the steps in testing the reliability of the instrument. Answer the
questions that follow.
Cronbach's alpha is 0.9492

Question: What is the Chronbach’s alpha coefficient? Is the instrument reliable?

Why?

Alpha Coefficient
The alpha coefficient is used to estimate the internal consistency of a composite
score. Estimating the reliability requires estimating a diagonal matrix represents
the variances of measurement error.
Yes , Cronbach’s alpha is a convenient test used to estimate the reliability, or internal
consistency, of a composite score.
It gives a simple way to measure whether or not a score is reliable.
