Course Syllabus

Course Name Self-Testing Activities & Gymnastics


Placement 2nd year, First Semester
Course Credit 2 Units

Course Description By the end of this course, the learner will demonstrate the ability to plan and implement different types of personal fitness programs,
demonstrate competency in two or more lifetime activities (outdoor pursuits, individual performance activities, net/wall games, etc.),
describe key concept associated with successful participation in physical activity, model responsible behavior while engaged in physical
activity and engage in physical activities that meet the need for self-expression, challenge, social interaction and enjoyment.
The course emphasis the placed on proper spotting techniques, safety skills, basic tumbling and apparatus skills, and teaching progression.
Equipment used will include: floor exercise mats, balance beam and still rings.

Course Objectives At the end of the course, the students are expected to:

1. Understanding of basic concept across the domain of knowledge


2. Critical, analytical and creative thinking
3. Appreciation of the human condition
4. Capacity to personally interpret the human experience
5. Ability to view the contemporary world from both Philippines and global perspective.
6. Ability to appreciate and contribute to artistic beauty
7. Working effectively in group
8. Basic work-related skill and knowledge about gymnastics
9. Demonstrate safety measures around and on gymnastic apparatus including proper set up and care of equipment.
10. Develop a gymnastic unit plan.

COURSE
REQUIREMENTS PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (required)
Demonstrate the necessary motor skills and movement patterns required to participate in a variety of physical activities.

Participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity while suing a heart-rate monitor at least four days each week that develops and
maintain the five components of fitness

Complete (minimally) bi-annual fitnessgram assessments and use physical fitness test result to set and adjust goals to improve fitness.

PORTFOLIO PROJECTS:
Evaluate Your Opiniom: explore community resources for participating in physical activity outside of school.

Exercise as Stress Management: Designs and implements stress-managements Strategies (e.g. relaxation techniques, deep breathing,
aerobics exercise, meditation) to reduce stress.

Let’s Get Fit: Design a fitness program that includes all aspects of health related fitness: cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, muscular
endurance and muscular strength.

Practice Makes Perfect: Create a practice plan to improve a specific lifetime gymnastics skill, for example, how to improve a split using
the two chairs.

ASSESSMENTS
Activity journal, fitness plan, fitness test criteria, portfolio, tests/quizzes, performance-reflection journal, presentation, record of
performance (e.g., skill assessments), essay, group and/ or individual project.
 Examination could be: Mid-term Exam and Final Exam
