ASSIGNMENT: ANGIOGRAPHY

ANGIOGRAPHY
Coronary angiography is a procedure that
uses x-ray imaging to see your heart’s
blood vessels.
Use of angiography:
It is used to check the health of the blood
vessels and how blood flows through them.
Access sites:
• Radial and femoral routes
Contrast:
Non ionic and low osmolar contrast is used
for cardiac imaging.

BRANULA
What is branula?
It is a technique in which the canula is
placed inside the vein to provide venous
access.
Basic parts of IV catheter:
• Needle tip
• Catheter tip
• Catheter hub
• Push off plate
• Clear flash back chamber
• Removable flashplug attachment

Technique for IV cannulation:

1) A tourniquet is tied proximal to the
insertion site in a single hand.
2) Traction is applied to the skin to
stabilize the vein.
3) If needed, an assistant can provide
counter-traction to further syabilize the
vein.
4) The IV catheter is inserted through the
skin at a 15-25 degree angle.
5) Once through the skin the angle of the
needle is dropped and it is aligned near
parallel to the skin.
6) The needle is then advanced slowly
and steadily until flashback is seen in
the chamber. This first flashback
confirms that the needle tip has
advanced through the wall of the vein.
7) Now advance the needle tip just a bit
further. Look for the sustained
continuous flow of blood in the
flashback chamber. This confirms that
the catheter tip is through the vessel
wall.
8) Now using the push off plate on the
catheter hub, gently advance the
catheter off the needle into the vein
using your index finger.
