NOTE: Beginning with August 2011, the web is the
primary delivery source of technical documentation for
HP-UX Operating Environments and Application
Products. Web delivery supports the Hewlett Packard
Enterprise Green Business Technology Initiative to
reduce packaging. It also supports our HP-UX
Technical Documentation goal to keep information up-
to-date and easily accessible.
Beginning with May 2017, the Instant Information
DVD is being withdrawn from the Media kit. This DVD
contained a subset of the documents which are now
available on the web.

Pointers to HP-UX documentation collections are

listed in A Guide to HP-UX Document Collections.

HP-UX 11i v3 Operating

Environments
The following are different OEs:

HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environments 5

• HP-UX 11i v3 Base OE (BOE): Provides
integrated HP-UX functionality for customers
requiring less complex installations. The BOE
contains all the applications included in the
Foundation OE. It improves the bundle set by
adding products such as HP Process Resource
Manager (PRM) and APA. This OE is bundled as
HPUX11i-BOE.

• Virtual Server OE (VSE-OE): Designed for

customers seeking higher resource utilization or
embarking on consolidation projects, and
virtualization for a flexible UNIX environment. The
VSE-OE contains all the products included in the
BOE (and the original EOE). It includes other
products such as HPE Matrix Operating
Environment for HP-UX (formerly HPE Insight
Dynamics – VSE for Integrity). The VSE-OE is
bundled as HPUX11i-VSE-OE.

6 Welcome to HP-UX 11i v3

• High Availability OE (HA-OE): For customers
requiring high availability for large mission-critical
applications. This OE contains all the products
included in the BOE (and the original EOE). It also
includes applications such as HPE Serviceguard,
SGeRAC, and HA toolkits required to enable a
mission-critical server. This OE is bundled as
HPUX11i-HA-OE.

• Data Center OE (DC-OE): For customers who

need both flexibility and high availability. The DC-
OE provides mission-critical virtualization by
combining VSE-OE and HA-OE in one integrated
and tested bundle. This OE contains all the
products included in the BOE, VSE-OE, HA-OE
(and the original MCOE) and is bundled as
HPUX11i-DC-OE.

Welcome to HP-UX 11i v3 7

Firmware requirements
The system should meet the minimum firmware
requirements for HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31). New IO
adapters and some of the virtualization applications
may require updated firmware.
For information about finding firmware, see HP-UX 11i
v3 Installation and Update Guide at http://
www.hpe.com/info/hpux-core-docs-11iv3.

Procedures for installing VxFS and

VxVM
Starting with May 2018 OEUR, the following products
are included in the OEUR and AR media:

8 Firmware requirements
• VxFS 4.1

• VxFS 6.1 required (always-installed)

• VxVM 6.1

The VxFS 6.1 (Base-VxFS-61) is always selected in

the Ignite-UX tool. Base-VxVM-61 is shipped as
(optional) product and you must explicitly select in
Ignite-UX tool for installation. VxFS 5.0.1 & VxVM
5.0.1, VxFS 5.1 SP1 & VxVM 5.1 SP1 are no longer
shipped in the OEUR and AR media. They are
available as independent download.

Welcome to HP-UX 11i v3 9

IMPORTANT: Base-VxFS-61 & Base-VxVM-61
are supported and installable only on Intel
Itanium 9500 Processor Series-based platforms
or later.
For existing HP-UX systems being updated to
the OEUR via update-ux, the existing VxFS/
VxVM release running on the system that is
earlier than VxFS/VxVM 6.1 will be updated
automatically only on Intel Itanium 9500
Processor Series-based platforms or later. To
avoid the automatic update to VxFS/VxVM 6.1
during update-ux, you must explicitly deselect
Base-VxFS-61, Base-VxVM-61, Base-
VxTools-61 and B3929IB for a successful OE
update.
Ignite-UX C.7.22.150 software is bundled in
HP-UX 11i v3 2018 OEUR. Ignite-UX C.
7.22.150 software or later must be used for cold
installation of HP-UX 11i v3 2018 OEUR with

VxFS 6.1 and VxVM 6.1. The limitation does
not apply on customized depots of HP-UX 11i
v3 2018 OEUR created with earlier versions of
VxFS & VxVM.
The upgrade path to VxFS 6.1 is supported
only from VxFS 5.1 SP1. If you are using older
version of VxFS, then upgrade to VxFS 5.1 SP1
before upgrading to VxFS 6.1.
If you want to install Veritas 4.1, 5.0, 5.0.1 or
5.1 SP1 version of VxFS and VxVM (which are
not default included in 2018 11i v3 OEUR)
instead of the 6.1 version of VxFS and VxVM
(which is included by default in 2018 11i v3
OEUR), you need to create a customized depot
as described in the white paper on Installation
of non-default VxFS and VxVM software
version on HP-UX 11i v3 2018 Operating
Environment Update Release at http://
www.hpe.com/info/hpux-core-docs-11iv3.

Welcome to HP-UX 11i v3 11

If an Application Release (AR) Media is used to
install or update to Veritas 6.1 (VxFS/VxVM)
products, then it is mandatory to download (or
use QPK bundle in 2018 HP-UX 11i v3 OE
DVD) and install the following patches or their
superseding patches separately as VxFS/VxVM
6.1 patches are not included in Feature11i of
the AR media:

• PHKL_44629 : 11.31 VRTS 6.1.0.200

VRTSvxvm Kernel and Command Patch

• PHCO_44521 : 11.31 VRTS 6.1.0.100

VRTSfsadv Command Patch

• PHKL_44713 : 11.31 VRTS 6.1.0.300

VRTSvxfs Kernel and Command Patch
