Objectives

1. To develop relevant expertise and competence in the academe and deliver quality education for the total development of BSED students.
2. To produce globally competitive graduates
3. To develop creativity and scientific approaches, and encourage innovative ideas in the academe in order to provide efficient and effective services in
the elementary and secondary levels;
4. To develop research competence among BSED students in order to contribute to the general advancement of knowledge;
5. To facilitate the development of skills and attitudes necessary for success of the Pre-service teachers who shall be employable locally and abroad.
6. To extend educational and entrepreneurial expertise for community development; and
7. To develop students’ moral character, critical thinking, aesthetic, environment and cultural values.

Course Description: This 3-unit course deals with the general concepts and principles pertaining to complex pattern of interaction between the physical environment
and biological communities on earth. Emphasis is also given on the current environmental issues and concerns as well as risk management techniques.

Course Outcomes:
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
1. Define the principles of science, stewardship and sustainability, and recognize their role in evaluating and establishing a viable human society within Earth’s
systems.
2. Apply the scientific method, and recognize that with its use science provides a reliable, rigorous and unbiased way to gain knowledge of the natural world.
3. Recognize, describe, and quantitatively describe Earth systems, including the land, water, sea, and atmosphere, and how these functions collectively to
support life on Earth.
4. Describe ecosystems in terms of how the vary, are structured, and function both internally and as part of the larger biosphere.
5. Describe human population characteristics and growth, and recognize the impacts of human society on Earth’s systems and resources.
6. Recognize the purpose and assess the effectiveness and feasibility of governmental environmental policy in defining and regulating the role and impacts of
human society on Earth.
