Study Existing Electricity Bills
Study Existing Electricity Bills
Oct20 to March21 -
Energy bill.xlsx
2. Findings
1. WEF April 2020, MSEDCL has implemented kVAh billing system and earlier kWh billing is now absolute.
2. Existing APFC panel controller is not meant to support the changes in billing and hence not functioning properly (e.g . refer
Feb21 bill) and it is resulting in low power factor (0.979) in peak load hour and generating excess kVARh (7125)during non-
peak load hours.
3. Also the existing capacitor capacities are oversize and not supporting to the changed billing type.
4. When load are at peak PF is not maintained at unity and at low load (During night and holidays) excess reactive power is
generated .
5. This is resulting in excess billing.
3. Solution
To overcome above mentioned issues and to get the saving in energy, we are proposing bellow remedies.
1. Replace existing controller with smart controller to fine tune requirement depending on load factor.
2. Addition of low size capacitors to mitigate low requirement of kVARh in non-peak hours.
3. Programming of controller to match with new billing requirement
4. Modification in wiring of existing power and control wiring.
Advantages to consumer:-
1. kVAh billing will ensure that the consumers who will utilize the power efficiently will be paying less energy charges as compared to
others who are not using the power efficiently.
2. The new billing methodology is much simpler to understand as number of parameters viz. PF, rkVAh (lead/lag), kWh units) are
reduced.
Advantages to utility:-
1. Good system stability, improved power quality, improved voltage profile and reduced capital expenditure.
2. Complete recovery of cost of active and reactive powers.
3. Zero/ minimal drawl of reactive power by consumers.
4. Reduction in power purchase cost
