Motivation Letter - Embedded Electronic System Design

Science has fascinated me since my school days. I have been curious about the experiments and has
taken part in science fairs in district and state level science work shops and quiz competitions
whenever I could. When I started my senior high school, I chose Biology, Physics, Chemistry and
IT as my focus subjects. Physics and automaton have always been close to my heart. That’s when I
recognized my interest in physics and identified it as my subject of choice.

I hail from cultural capital on middle part of the Indian state named Kerala. My parents are
ordinary class and they, despite being not highly educated, have always encouraged me and my
siblings to pursue higher education. Their hard work has always inspired me.

For my undergraduate studies, I chose electronics as my major. The concepts were not easy to
understand but I really enjoyed the challenge and the practical experience at the laboratory helped
me develop my appreciation for the subject because of that, I decided to do master in the same
subject. My course helped me to gain a strong theoretical basis in embedded system, Power
electronics, wireless communication, signals and systems, PIC microcontroller and ARM processor.
my experiences in the career showed me how much dedication and hard work I should take to excel
in electronics and I find it appealing and rewarding. It was during my post graduation course that I
realised my research interest in embedded electronics. During my course I did my project entitled
"Raspberry Pi based PIR motion sensor", during this project I gained hands on experience in
working of Raspberry Pi mini computer and how to interface it to home automation system by
using PIR motion sensor and also get python language learning. I have a good understanding of
PCB layout designing, interfacing programming, working of Advanced microprocessors and many
more things related with embedded electronics. Learning about this made me realise how important
embedded in the field of modern science is like Home Automation, Modern Warfare, automobile,
applied medical sciences, biotechnology and many more. On the course of my job, I suffered from
Limited availability of lab equipment and technology that was not up to date. Up to an extent we are
still using conventional method for experiments. I do not find that satisfactory and would like to
update my knowledge and work in cutting-edge research projects.

After successful completion of my Masters program I decided to work and gained valuable
experience in repairs and maintenance in refrigeration system as a service coordinator. I got
knowledge about different printed circuit boards used in different systems and it's quality repairings
also.

On the course of my job, I became aware of the need to acquire internationally relevant, solid,
technical knowledge about embedded and artificial intelligence in the field of automation, advanced
Sciences, biotechnology and environmental risk analysis and many more. I have earned knowledge
about basic embedded, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, VLSI fabrication and VHDL during
my Masters time. my work experience made me interested in quality checking of different PCB's
also.
My country, India, does provide good theoretical education, but our laboratories are often ill-
equipped and managed. I would like to gain practical knowledge and conduct research in a well-
equipped and managed research facility.

I first came to know about Chalmers University through a lecturer during my graduation program.
And highly recommended it for its excellent facilities and research oriented atmosphere. Thus I
selected this prestigious institution as my top choice because it is one of the best 150 universities. I
was also inspired by the illustrious alumni that the University has including Nobel Laureates and
innovative scientists and entrepreneurs. I find the syllabus of the program highly relevant to my
interests and useful in building up a career in Embedded Electronics Engineering.

I hope to expand my knowledge gained during the course my studies and the practical experience
during my work by attending the masters program in Embedded electronic system design at
Chalmers University. I plan to do my coursework with dedication and diligence. I would be grateful
if I get an opportunity to study at Chalmers University and to work in an innovative atmosphere
which promote research into challenging areas.

Thank you and hope to be a part of this eminent institution,

FREDY FRANCIS
