Course Outline:
1. Introduction to capillarity and wetting
2. Young Laplace equation & Three phase equilibria (minimal surfaces)
3. Wetting (ex. hysteresis; morphology transitions, Wenzel & Cassie Baxter state)
4. Superhydrophobic surfaces
5. Wetting and long-range forces (effective interface potential)
6. Hydrodynamics of interfaces I (lubrication approximation)
7. Hydrodynamics of interfaces II (stability analysis; surface waves)
8. Wetting dynamics (Tanner's law, contact line dynamics, Cox Voinov law, molecular kinetic
theory)
9. Dewetting and transport phenomena (Marangoni flow)
10. Drop dynamics
11. Capillarity and external fields: gravity & electric fields(electrowetting)
