Growth of E-Commerce during the Pandemic

In this pandemic we have seen a huge obstruction with the retail industry and the new
beginning of the electronic commerce. We all have experience various difficulties with
getting our essential day to day items from the stores since the pandemic started due to
various restrictions that was put up by the government. Amidst all this chaos in the world the
only easy accessible way to get hold of the goods was only by e-commerce.

Since all the schools, workplace and events were all being banned during this time and
everything got converted to an online mode and people found it very difficult to go about
things, mainly to find the appropriate equipment needed for this offline to online transition.
The questions were being raised in the minds of the customers for various reasons might be
due to unavailability of laptop for an online class for their kids, no appropriate equipment to
conduct online activities, no comfort to work from home and many other. This is when the
customers relayed completely on E-commerce to get things faster and in a hassle free
manner(Alfonso,2020).

It is also observed that during this pandemic the growth of E-commerce has tremendously
increased in places where the restrictions of moments were very strict and sever. The
countries which had a low rate of e-commerce in 2019 were the same countries that had the
highest growth rate of e-commerce during this pandemic. The dependency on e-commerce
completely took a drastic turn in the year 2020 all because of the pandemic (Alfonso,2020).

Even though the demand has increased tremendously the supply was where we could see a
lag in. Most of the products were not available anymore, some products got stuck in transit
due to transportation restrictions, people still feared shopping online. E-commerce industry
had to come up with something more creative to get over this hurdle. To overcome this they
have introduced new range of products. They have also expanded their services in this
pandemic by branching into new services which have been very useful. They adapted quickly
to all the new changes and changed the business models. A lot of retailors who had their
business from ages together and feared entering the online market now were encouraged to
take the online platform. The profit made through this was surprisingly high.

The cost and revenue of the online market boosted a lot during Covid-19. The e-commerce
came into light to a lot of rural population and remote areas as well. E-commerce became
more accessible to all of customers. The growth of e-commerce was a real boon to all of
mankind. Customers got their services and products in the comfort of their home and the
online retailers got their profits doubled during the pandemic. It was a win-win situation for
everyone (Dinesh, 2021).
