Session Topic : Functions of Communication


 Regulation or Control
Objectives:

At the end of the session, the students will be able to:

 Explain how communications functions as a form of regulation or control;


 Present a role play illustrating regulation or control; and
 explain the scenario shown in the role play.

Duration : 1 hour

ACTIVITY (10 minutes)


I SAW THE SIGN:
 The students will identify the different kinds of signages.

No Parking Sign
Smoking Kills
Non Biodegradable Sign
No Loading/Unloading Sign
Male/Female Sign
No ID No Entry

ANALYSIS (10 minutes)

The teacher will begin the discussion by asking the following questions:

1. Where can we see the given signs?


2. What do these signs suggest?
3. What are you going to do when you see these signs?
4. What will happen if we do not follow the signs?

ABSTRACTION (10 minutes)

Say: To further enhance our understanding on the function of communication


(regulation and control), let us now focus on the discussion using a powerpoint
presentation.

The power point presentation will highlight the following:

Regulation/Control
 A way of controlling behavior
 Persuading other people or impelling them to act or behave the way
we want them to.
 Convincing them to agree to our ideas or beliefs or get them to act.
 Directing the behavior of others.
 Influencing others to do an action depending on purpose.

APPLICATION (30 minutes)

Form a group of five to six members.

Create a two-minute group presentation that reflects your understanding of


regulation and control.

Be creative.

Bring a news article/picture showing how regulation or control is
