Processes for the specification and demonstration of RAMS re- quirements are cornerstones of this standard, This European Standard aims to promote @ common understanding and approach to the management of RAMS. ‘This Furopean Standard can be applied system atically by a railway authority and railway sup- port industry, throughout all phases of the life- cycle of a railway application, to develop rallway specific RAMS requirements and to achieve compliance with these requirements, ‘The systems-level approach defined by this Eu- ropean Standard facilitates assessment of the RAMS interactions between elements of com plex railway applications. ‘This Buropean Standard promotes co-operation between a railway authority and salway sup- pott industry, within a variety of procurement strategie’, in’ the achievement of an optimal combination of RAMS and cost for railway ap- plications. Adoption of this European Standaed will support the principles of the European Sin- gle Market and facilitate European railway in- teroperability. “The process defined by this European Standard assumes that railway authorities and rathvay sup- port industry have business-level policies ad- diessing Quality, Performance and Safety. The approach defined in this standard is consistent with the application of quality management re- quirements contained within the ISO 9000 series of Intemational standards.
