IV. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

There are two graded assessment tools in this course. The assessment tools must be accomplished
individually.

a. Long Exam
Four (4) take-home long exams will be given. The exam questionnaire will be posted in UVLe as
scheduled in the table shown below. Students have one (1) week to answer each exam. Late
submissions will be given five (5) days with 10% deduction daily to turn them in. Afterwards, a maximum
score of 50% will be received automatically. However, if the cause of the late submission is deemed to
be a justifiable reason (no internet connection, no power, etc.), then the deduction will be waived.

4 June 11, 5:30 PM June 18, 11:59 PM

b. Short Quiz
Short quizzes will be given occasionally to check the understanding of topics. The questionnaire will be
posted in UVLe. Students must submit their answers in the next meeting. Late submissions will be given
five (5) days with 10% deduction daily to turn them in. Afterwards, a maximum score of 50% will be
received automatically. However, if the cause of the late submission is deemed to be a justifiable
reason (no internet connection, no power, etc.), then the deduction will be waived.

V. GRADING SYSTEM

VI. COURSE GUIDE

a. Learning Management System

The course will be delivered through the University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLE) course site. The
course materials will be uploaded in UVLE. Announcements or updates relevant to the course will be
posted in UVLE. Submissions of assessment tools must also be done through UVLE.

b. Course Delivery

Asynchronous Mode
This course will be delivered remotely, and the student is expected to study the learning materials
independently. The course pack, containing text-based learning materials, is designed to be a stand-alone
learning resource.

Synchronous Mode
Synchronous sessions will be held once a week primarily for consultations and clarifications on the
weekly topics. Additional examples may be discussed if deemed necessary by the course handler. The
sessions will be held in Zoom and the student is expected to have read the learning materials assigned
for that week. Students are not required to attend the synchronous sessions; however, attendance is
highly encouraged so that timely feedback can be given. A recording will be uploaded every after the
session for those who will not be able to attend.

c. Online Etiquette
During synchronous sessions, you are encouraged to participate and do consultations. Students can speak
one at a time. When someone is speaking, others are asked to mute their mic to avoid unnecessary noise.

d. Consultations
All consultations will be done on specified consulting hours of the course handler. You may contact the
course handler through the provided contact details on the first page of this course syllabus. Details on
scheduling of consultations will be discussed by the course handler. However, once you have made a
consultation appointment, please ensure that you will go to the agreed schedule to avoid any
inconvenience. In case you have concerns regarding the consultation schedule and platform, please
inform the course handler immediately.

e. Submission Dates
Submission dates of the requirements are already indicated in this syllabus. These are also reflected in the
calendar.

f. Teaching Strategies and Learning Activities

As the student, you are primarily responsible for your own learning. Detailed lecture notes are provided
to you as your main source of information. These are standalone lecture notes and detailed solutions to
sample problems are provided. You are advised to redo the sample problems on your own to ensure that
you have understood the steps in solving the problems. Additional materials may be provided during the
synchronous sessions. In case you are having difficulty in any of the learning materials provided, it is your
responsibility to reach out to the course handler. As this is the first time that this mode of learning will
be applied to this course, you are highly encouraged to reach out for the course handler to do the
necessary adjustments or provide supplemental materials to assist you in your learning.

g. Academic Integrity

It is expected that the student follows the highest principles of academic honesty. Any form of
work that will be submitted should be their own or should have the work of others clearly documented
and acknowledged.

All students must be committed to the principles of intellectual honesty and integrity. Suspected
misconduct on given assignments/examinations will be reported to the DMMME Grievance and Ethics
Committee and if established, will result in disciplinary action in accordance with University rules,
policies and procedures.

Once found responsible of an academic dishonesty violation (cheating, fabrication, plagiarism,

sabotage, participation in academically dishonest activities, facilitating academic dishonesty), a
student will be subjected to the University's and DMMME’s rules and regulations which may result to a
failing mark and/or expulsion from the university.

Definition of “intellectual dishonesty” as “any fraudulent act performed by a student to achieve academic
advantage or gain for oneself or others, including but not limited to: plagiarism, fabrication, copying or
submission of the same work in two or more courses”. (Source: UP Student Code of Conduct 2012. Article
III No. 14)

h. Special Services

If you are a student with special needs and require accommodations, you must be registered with the
University’s Office of Counselling and Guidance (OCG). Students must provide current documentation to
OCG which identifies their special needs and need for accommodation(s). Students must meet instructors
with appropriate notification from OCG of the approved accommodation as early in the semester as
possible. You may learn more about the services of the Office of Counselling and Guidance by vising its
office at the Vinzons Hall.
