APOSTROPHE’S - (‘S): POSSESSIVE CASE - GENITIVE CASE
Singular nouns
Add -’s
No noun
Sometimes the noun after -’s is not necessary when the meaning is clear.
29
sedacollegeonline.com.br
POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
The possessive adjective needs to agree with the possessor and not with the thing that is possessed.
Examples:
My car is very old. Her boyfriend is very friendly. Our dog is black.
Like all adjectives in English, they are always located directly in front of the noun they refer to.
(Possessive Adjective + Noun)
We do not include an S to the adjective when the noun is plural like in many other languages.
Examples:
Our cars are expensive. (Correct) Ours cars are expensive. (Incorrect)
However, the verb that is used needs to be in agreement with the noun - if the noun is singular then
the verb is singular; if the noun is plural then the verb is plural.

PERSON THING
PERSON THING
An adjective can be put after the verb to be (is). This is called predicative position.
PERSON THING
IMPORTANT
When we speak about what something looks like, smells, sounds and tastes – we use the adjective.
Mind the difference between adjective and adverb.
I feel great.
She looks good.
It seems impossible.
The steak smells fantastic.

The word Grey is used in the rest of the English-speaking countries (England, Australia, NZ etc.)
There are three ways that you can use a colour in a sentence to describe something:

CAN OR CAN’T
Can is a modal verb.
Can is used to express ability or to say that something is possible.
Can is the same for all subjects. We don’t add an ‘S’ in the third person (like other verbs)
Affirmative:
The verb that comes after Can is in the infinitive without to:
-I can speak Spanish. (= it is possible for me to speak Spanish = I have the ability to speak Spanish)
-Lauren can swim well.
USES OF CAN
-They can see their neighbour in the yard .
-We can play the piano. 1- Ability or possibility:
- I can swim.
Negative 2- Permission:
To form the negative we add “not” after can to form one word: cannot. - You can use my pen.

He can speak English.
-I cannot play the guitar.
He can speaks English.
-She cannot speak French very well.
He can to speak English

the auxiliary verb.
He can’t sing = He cannot sing
The main verb is still in the infinitive without to.
-Can I go to the party, please?
QUESTIONS
-Can you speak French?
