ANATOMY
OF THE
HEART Milton Arley Anaya Alvarado

THE HEART IS AN ORGAN ABOUT THE SIZE OF A FIST. IT IS MADE UP OF MUSCLE TISSUE AND
PUMPS BLOOD THROUGHOUT THE BODY. BLOOD TRAVELS THROUGHOUT THE BODY
THROUGH BLOOD VESSELS, TUBES CALLED ARTERIES AND VEINS.

APEX
It is the tip of the heart.

HEARTH BASE
Corresponds to the atria and their
confluence with the great vessels (superior
and inferior vena cavae and right and left
pulmonary veins).

INTERVENTRICULAR
SULCUS
They mark the limits between
the right and left ventricle, they
are the anterior and posterior
interventricular grooves.

HEART ATRIA
The atria are the gateways for blood to enter the
heart. The left atrium and the right atrium are
the two upper chambers of the heart. The left
atrium receives oxygenated blood from the
lungs. The right atrium receives deoxygenated
blood that returns from other parts of the body

VENTRICLES
The ventricles are the chambers of the heart
whose function is to pump blood for the
systemic circulation, through the aortic valve,
in the case of the left ventricle, and for the
pulmonary circulation, through the pulmonary
valve, in the case of the ventricle. straight.
INTERNAL
ANATOMY
OF THE
HEART Milton Arley Anaya Alvarado
THE INTERNAL PART OF THE HEART IS MADE UP OF FOUR CHAMBERS: TWO ON THE RIGHT SIDE
AND TWO ON THE LEFT, HENCE IT IS COMMON TO SPEAK OF THE RIGHT HEART AND THE LEFT
HEART. THE CAVITIES LOCATED IN THE UPPER PART ARE CALLED ATRIA, AND THOSE LOCATED IN
THE LOWER PART, VENTRICLES.

RIGHT ATRIUM

RIGHT VENTRICLE

TRICUSPID VALVE
Located between the two chambers on the
right side of the heart, it consists of three
flaps of tissue called "leaflets." The tricuspid
valve opens when blood flow leaves the
right atrium into the right ventricle.

PECTINEUM MUSCLE
The pectineal muscles are 2nd and 3rd order muscle
bands that emerge from the terminal crest and go to the
crest of the atrioventricular foramen. The superiors are
greater and they are reduced downwards; there is also a
group of small pectineal muscles that are directed
towards the appendage.

TENDINOUS CORDS
They are structures with the shape of filaments, whose
tissue is fibrous in nature, and are responsible for joining the
ventricular surface and the free edge of the leaflets with the
papillary muscles, and, consequently, with the posterior wall
of the left ventricle.

LEFT VENTRICLE BICUSPID VALVE

Allows oxygen-rich
blood from the lungs
to pass from the left
atrium to the left
ventricle
