Interestingly enough, UCLA does not offer a formal business major. In its place, however, is a wealth of different majors and concentrations that includes, but is not limited to, Business Economics, Economics, Math/Econ, Financial Actuarial Mathematics and minors like Accounting and Entrepreneurship.

Down below are some potential career paths you can keep your eye on. ‘Investment Banking. ● Proprietary trading: Search for the best opportunities in the financial markets on their company's behalf ● Market Making: create a market to connect buyers and sellers if you want to buy certain stocks. ● Mergers and Acquisitions: The timing of the deal, the structure of the deal, the regulations, screening the target (due diligence), publicizing. ● Corporate events/ new issue: Help a company that needs to raise funds by issuing either debt or equity. Includes IPOs ‘Investment Banking Cont.. ● Structuring products: combining multiple assets into a single product, sometimes across different asset classes. Could be for an org., hedge fund, or an individual ● Research: for companies that need recommendations and information on macroeconomics variables, politics, investment strategies, etc. ● Asset Management: managing and investing large sums of money to get a return over the long run. For pension funds, charities, etc. ‘Consulting. ● Key source of expertise for the business world, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations ● Offered a way to help companies build lasting value ● Generally: Consultants are professionals who provide expertise to organizations to help them maximize their profitability or effectiveness and keep them running smoothly. ‘Accounting. ● Accounting is the recording of financial transactions ○ Showing when and where money has been spent and commitments have been made ● Storing, sorting, retrieving, summarizing, and presenting the results in various reports and analyses. ● Tax vs Audit will decide if you work for public accounting or corporate accounting ‘Entrepreneurship. ● Entrepreneurs are the people who take risks to start their own business
