Exercise 9.

2
1) In fig 9.15, ABCD is a parallelogram, AE⊥DC and CF⊥AD. If
AB = 16 cm, AE = 8 cm, and CF = 10 cm , Find AD.

Solution:-
Given :-
AB = DC = 16 cm
AE = 8 cm
CF = 10 cm
Area of parallelogram = base(b) * height(h)
AB * AE = AD * CF
16 * 8 = AD * 10
128 = 10AD
ଵଶ଼
AD =
ଵ଴

AD = 12.8
2) If E,F,G and H are respectively the mid-points of the sides of a

parallelogram ABCD, show that ar(EFGH) = ܽ‫)ܦܥܤܣ(ݎ‬

Solution:-
Given :- E,F,G,H are the midpoints of the side AB, BC, CD,
AD respectively.
Construction:- Join HF and HF is parallel to AB as H and F
are the midpoints of AD and BC respectively.
Proof :- Parallelogram ABFH and triangle EFH lie on the
same base HF between same parallel AB and HF then,

Ar(HEF) = ܽ‫)ܪܨܤܣ(ݎ‬ -------------(1)

Similarly,

Ar(HGF) = ܽ‫)ܦܥܨܪ(ݎ‬ -------------(2)

Adding (1) & (2) , We get,

Ar(HEF) + Ar(HGF) = ܽ‫ݎ‬ሾ(‫ ) ܪܨܤܣ‬+ (‫) ܦܥܨܪ‬ሿ

Ar(EFGH) = ܽ‫)ܦܥܤܣ(ݎ‬ Hence Proved.

3) P and Q are any two points lying on the sides DC and AD
respectively of a parallelogram ABCD. Show that
ar(APB) = ar(BQC)

Solution:-
Given:- ABCD is a parallelogram.
Proof:-Parallelogram ABCD and Triangle BQC lie on the
same base BC and between same parallels BC and AD.

Ar(BQC) = ܽ‫)ܦܥܤܣ(ݎ‬ ----------------(1)

Parallelogram ABCD and Triangle APB lie on the same base AB and
CD.

Ar(APB) = ܽ‫)ܦܥܤܣ(ݎ‬

Ar(APB) = ar(BCQ) (∵ ‫( ݊݋݅ݐܽݑݍ݁ ݉݋ݎܨ‬1))

Hence Proved.
