5. An independent study of middle level managers employed at companies located in
Atlanta, Georgia, was conducted to compare salaries of managers working in firms in
Atlanta to the national average. The following data show the monthly salary in thousands
of dollars, for a sample of 6 middle-level managers.

7. There is an injured bear in the forest that needs to be moved! We need an idea of his
weight but have no scale.

Past studies have shown that this type of bears weigh an average of 200 pounds with an
SD of 60 pounds. Now suppose we also know that this type of bears has an average neck
circumference of 25 inches with a standard deviation of 5”. Also, for this type of bears,
the correlation coefficient (r) between neck circumference and weight is 0.8. The injured
bear has neck circumference of 30 inches.

(a) How many SDs is bear’s neck circumference from the average bear neck
circumference?
(b) Can we say anything about the relationship between bear’s weight and its neck
circumference?
