GLOBAL PROBLEM
1. Scientists say that in the future humanity will speak the same language. Do you think this is a positive or
negative social development?
2. Some people think that developing countries need financial help from international organizations. Others
think that it is practical aid and advice that is needed. Discuss these views and give your own opinion.
3. Many people believe that the world’s most urgent problems can only be solved by international
collaboration. Do you agree or disagree?
4. Some people say that governments should spend money on measures to save languages that are used by
few speakers, while others believe it's a waste of financial resources. Discuss both views and give your
opinion?
5. Some people think zoos are cruel and all the zoos should be closed. However, some people think zoos are
useful to protect the rare animals. Discuss both these views and give your opinion?
6. Some people think that politicians have the greatest influence on the world. Other people, however, believe
that scientists have the greatest influence. Discuss both of views and give your opinion.
7. Nuclear energy is a better choice for meeting increasing demand, agree or disagree?
8. In the past people believed that the human race was steadily making progress in all areas of life,
nowadays there is less certainty that it is so. In what areas do you think the most important progress has
been made so far? In what areas more needs to be done?
9. The tendency for human beings to copy others can be shown in the popularity of fashion in clothes and

10. The restoration of the old buildings in the major cities throughout the world involves the enormous

16. Many countries are experiencing population growth and need more homes. Should these new homes be
constructed in existing cities or should new towns be built in the countryside? 
17. Nowadays, a lot of buildings, such as offices and  schools, are now being built with an open plan design.
Why is that? Do you see this as a positive or negative development?
18. In many cities there is a lack of space to develop and as a result, in order to moderni ze, old buildings are
demolished and replaced with new buildings. What are the disadvantages of knocking down old buildings?
