Rangers Lead The Way - US Army Rangers in Team Yankee - Part 1
With Luke Daley

Do you want to play as Americans? Do you not

like the Marines? Not a big fan of the regular
army? Are the airborne not your thing? Well,
bring on the Rangers!

Without going too deep, the US Army Rangers

are seen as some of the most elite troops in
the US Army. They are comparable to the Navy’s
SEALs, and other specialized formations. They
played a vital part in the US involvement in Vietnam,
and also had experience at Grenada in the 1980s.

In Team Yankee, the USA is within NATO, and

already has the Army and Marines deployed to
Europe. It could be a possibility that the Rangers
would be deployed to Europe too…

The rules for Rangers are mostly made up of

American and Israeli rules.

US Army Rangers carried a lot of the same

equipment that the regular army carried, although
they often had heavier firepower. Heavy machine
guns were more common, although they sometimes
lacked the anti-tank capability the army had.
The Rangers wouldn’t take M47 Dragons -
they weren’t transportable enough. The
Rangers are dropped into battle from Huey
helicopters. Count these troops as US
Marines that cannot take M47 Dragon
teams, and only give them Huey
helicopters.

Rangers could count on having some

vehicles - such as M151 jeeps. These jeeps
could be airlifted and dropped, alongside some
potent weaponry. This included jeeps with
TOW missiles, machine guns, and anti-air
weapons. Count TOW jeeps as Israeli TOW jeeps, and MG jeeps as Israeli recon
jeeps. Count jeeps with a stinger team on board as US HMMWV stinger
platoons.

In support, the rangers can count on the same US support units than any other US
force can add to their formations.

To round up, count rangers as airmobile US Marine formations that you can
add Israeli TOW and MG jeeps, and Stinger Humvees to in place of LAVs or
other scout units. Give them US air support.

Rangers Lead The Way - US Army Rangers in Team Yankee - Part 2

With Luke Daley

Still fancy yourself a Rangers player? Well, here’s a quick guide to building a force.

Shopping List:
● For US Army Rangers, buy Battlefront’s
US Marine infantry sets
● For Huey helicopters, buy Battlefront’s
relevant sets. Revell and Butler’s Printed
Models also make these.
● For Rangers MG and TOW jeeps, I would
buy Battlefront’s Israeli jeep sets. You
can also find some modes at Butler’s
Printed Models.
● For Rangers with stinger missiles
aboard, I would buy Israeli redeye or
Dutch stinger platoons from Battlefront,
and mount them in jeeps.

As for painting:

Rangers as far as I have seen got specialist

camouflage patterns, unlike the regular army. In
Vietnam they got tropical patterns, in grenada
they received a browny-red and green pattern,
or wore green overalls.

Ranger jeeps are usually painted the same

way as their infantry uniforms, in greens and
browns. They sometimes have camo netting on
them, and are sometimes a green drab colour.

Good luck with your American Rangers force!
