GLOBAL

WARMING
WHAT IS GLOBAL
WARMING?
Ongoing rise of the average temperature of
the Earth's climate system and has been
demonstrated by direct temperature
measurements and by measurements of
various effects of the warming.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL
WARMING
CAUSES OF GLOBAL
WARMING
1 GREENHOUSE EFFECT

The exchange of incoming

and outgoing radiation that
warms the Earth is often
referred to as the
greenhouse effect because
a greenhouse works in
much the same way.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL
WARMING
GREENHOUSE
2 GASES

Gas molecules that absorb thermal

infrared radiation, and are in
significant enough quantity, can force
the climate system. These type of gas
molecules are called greenhouse
gases.
These greenhouse gases include
water vapor, CO2, methane,
nitrous oxide (N2O) and other
gases.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL
WARMING
DEFORESTATI
3 ON

Second largest anthropogenic

source of carbon dioxide to the
atmosphere ranging between 6
percent and 17 percent.
It is the permanent removal of
trees to make room for
something besides forest. This
can include clearing the land for
agriculture or grazing, or using
the timber for fuel, construction
or manufacturing.
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL
WARMING
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL
WARMING
RISE IN SEA
1 LEVEL

Due to temperature, the

Glaciers present in polar
regions are melting
rapidly as a result there is
sufficient rise in sea level.
Ocean heat uptake

Melting of Glaciers
Reduction of ice
sheets
Changes in water
storage on land
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL
WARMING
DROUGHTS AND
2 FLOODS

Higher temperature leads to

faster evaporation of water and
leads to drought in one part and
heavy rainfall causes flooding in
other part of the world.
Experts have estimated that ,
drought conditions might be
increasing by at least 66
percent in upcoming years.
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL
WARMING
PLANTS AND
3 ANIMALS

The effects of global warming on

the Earth's ecosystems are
expected to be profound and
widespread. Many species of
plants and animals are already
moving their range northward or
to higher altitudes as a result of
warming temperatures,
according to a report from the
National Academy of Sciences.

PREVENTIONS
REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE Reducing the amount of waste
you produce is the way to help
the environment.

We can reduce the

emission of carbon
dioxide by choosing
reusable products Instead of throwing things
away, try to find ways to use
instead of disposables. them again.

Recycling things that have already

been used, to make new things for
better purposes.
GLOBAL WARMING
PREVENTIONS
USING COMPACT FLUORESCENT
2 LIGHT

We can save energy by

replacing regular light bulbs
with compact fluorescent light
(CFL) bulbs.
Also CFL’s last 10 times longer
than incandescent bulbs and
give off 70 percent less heat.
GLOBAL WARMING
PREVENTIONS
PLANTING
3 TREES

We should plant more

trees as they absorb
carbon dioxide and give off
oxygen.
They are integral part of
natural atmospheric
exchange cycle here on
earth.
Global Warming…
CONCLUSION
⚫ occurs when carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and
absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. The
greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon. However, the increase in greenhouse
gases is linked to human activities

⚫ causes increase of temperatures and the climate upheavals disturb the ecosystems that
affects the biodiversity, increase of sea level at a rate, more droughts and heatwaves,
more precipitations, more natural disasters like floods, hurricanes, storms and wildfires,
frost-free season, and shaking up social, health and geopolitical balances in many parts
of the world

⚫ can be prevented if we use renewable energies, maintaining energy & water efficiency,
practicing the use of sustainable transportation, build sustainable infrastructure, enhance
sustainable agriculture & forest management, and most importantly being responsible
consumption & recycling
