1. Familiarize with the country’s songs/music and its composer.

Course Materials
Music in the Philippines embodies the Filipino culture and comes in different
forms based on history, geography and represents more than an ethnolinguistic group
of people coming from a different social and cultural setting.
Harana and Kundiman are popular lyrical songs originated during the Spanish
period and used in courtship rituals. The lyrics of kundiman centered on love, passion
and sadness.

Folk songs originate from the people and passed through oral tradition to the
next.
The Tagalog Folk Songs are: Bahay Kubo, Sitsiritsit, Leron Leron Sinta,
Paruparong Bukid, Magtanim ay Di Biro, Ang Pipit, Manang Biday, Dandansoy, Atin Cu
Pung Singsing.
