GALACTOMANNAN .............. 0.126

Serum:

DIAGNOSTIC:

Positive: A single positive index of >0.7 or

two consecutive samples of >0.5
Negative: <0.5

This is an electronic report & not

PROGNOSTIC:
Serum value of >1.0 is considered a sign of therapeutic failure

to be used for any legal purposes

Bronchoalveolar lavage:
Positive: >1.0
CSF:
Positive: >0.5

Positive results:
Positive results must be evaluated in combination with fungal culture,
histopathology, radiological evidence and clinical findings.
Falsely raised galactomannan index (GMI) can be seen with amoxicillin,
amoxicillin-clavulanate, piperacillin-tazobactam, and sodium gluconate (plasmalyte
solution) therapy, as well as prolonged intake of foods with high concentration of
galactomannan such as pasta, rice, peas, carrots, mushroom and spinach. Damage to
gastrointestinal mucosa after chemotherapy and irradiation can also cause false
positive results.
Serum galactomannan is specific for Aspergillus species however infection with
Penicillium species, Geotrichum capitatum, Paecilomyces variotii, and Alternaria
species may also give rise to false positive results.
Negative results:
A negative result does not rule out invasive aspergillosis (IA) in a high risk
patient. Repeat testing is recommended in such cases.
Use of mold active agents e.g. itraconazole, voriconazole or posaconazole, can
result in falsely low serum galactomannan index.
BETA D GLUCAN .............. 16.335 pg/mL
