Welding provides a means of building up an
assembly by joining together plates, bars,
pipes and other standard sections.

The process is also useful in cases where
castings, forgings and pre-machined parts
have to be fabricated into a main assembly.
Welded fabrications are usually cheaper than
castings for small batch or one-off jobs
because the need for expensive patterns
does not arise.
