Role Number: MBA06034

Application of Macros
Scenario: Atindra is the HR Business Partner of IBM’s IT Support Division which holds a
strength of 300 employees. IBM has a retirement age of 60 years. The division works for
Schneider Electric France, aiding its IT services. There is a weekly report generated for
employees with customer feedback and the employees’ satisfaction with their work. Kunal
Shukla, Atindra’s manager wants him to do a weekly analysis of Employee Performance based
on Age and Job Satisfaction based on Age, as he believes that people with a higher age bracket
are less efficient than younger millennials. Atindra disagrees with this notion but will have to
provide sufficient data to disprove the notion.
Plan: Atindra decides to use excel functions, AVERAGEIFS to calculate the average job
satisfaction and, average customer feedback points. He makes 4 Age groups -> 18-25, 25-35,
35-45, 45-60, and makes a chart to depict the data.
With a tight schedule, Atindra decides to use automation to reduce his redundant tasks. He
discovers a wonderful tool in Excel – MACROS. This tool captures/records a series of actions
and can be easily replicated using shortcut keys on different Excel files.
Atindra follows the steps:
1. Goes to Developer Tab -> Record Macros. Names the Macro as "AgeWise Employee
Performance and Satisfaction Analysis". Sets the shortcut as "CTRL+G" and saves it
as Personal Workbook to be used in different excel sheets. This starts the recording of
Macro.
2. Calculate the minimum and Maximum age of employees to get a fair idea of the age
range

Maximum and Minimum Age

Max Age 59
Min Age 18

3. Calculates the average customer feedback for different age ranges

Average Rating Age-wise

>18 & <25 3.23
>25 & <35 3.21
>35 & <45 3.20
>45 & <60 3.18

4. Calculates the average Job Satisfaction Age-wise

Average Job Satisfaction Age-Wise
>18 & < 25 3.11
>25 & < 35 2.76
>35 & <45 2.96
>45 & < 60 2.67

6. Atindra receives a new report next week. He will have to repeat the same tedious tasks.
Instead, he uses the MACRO shortcut to get the same operations done on the new sheet
of data. Screenshot attached.
