Sickness benefit is closest. As a rule, sickness or injury requiring Accrues or arises when the impaired physical and/or
prolonged treatment shall be deemed mental faculties can be rehabilitated and/or restored to
temporary total for a period of 120 days, their normal functions. (Sec 2(t), GSIS Act)
thereafter if the disability still persists, the
grant of TTD benefits shall be continued up
to a maximum of 240 days. Thereafter, if
the claimant is still sick and unable to
report for work as established by proper
medical examination, his disability shall be
considered permanent and total. (ECC

Accrues or arises when there is complete but temporary
incapacity to continue with a member’s present
employment or engage in any gainful occupation due to
the loss or impairment of the normal function of the
physical and/or mental faculties of the member. In effect,
this loss or impairment can be reversed to the point where
the member can continue with his previous employment or
engage in another gainful occupation.
