The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Scheduling is one of the major need in the business, especially in school and universities.
Faculty scheduling, class scheduling, room scheduling, etc. However ineffective scheduling can
lead to mistakes like overlapping of schedules, schedule duplication, ineffective use of rooms,
and more.

Faculty scheduling refers to the process of preparing a faculty schedule. Faculty

schedule shows the faculty class, time allotment, day, room, and faculty advisory. Both faculty
and student can use it for reference of their classes. The school or university use this system for
classroom monitoring and faculty availability information.

Faculty schedule is made to make the school or university operation works

smoothly. Although we are making our full effort in order to avoid making changes on posted
schedules, it is sometimes necessary to add, edit or delete schedules or change room sometimes.
And this changes can result to mistakes that affect the productivity of the whole department. The
faculty scheduling system is made to eliminate or lessen the errors and making time to make sure
that the productivity and effectiveness of the department can work smoothly.

This study is conducted in order to identify possible solutions to the scheduling

problems met by the instructors, class advisers, students, department chair, and of the school as a
whole.

Significance of the Study

Socio-economic significance - This study is proposed with the framework that will
motivate other individuals, understudies, and experts to create a successful and proficient
framework.

Technological significance - This system proposed will present to the said company but
within the entire field of innovation in terms of business and industrial computerization of records

of deliveries that are presently still adjusting the manual framework in overseeing the delivery
records.

Researchers - The researchers have created their transcript, study, analysis, and
interpretation abilities required to form a great thesis.

Future Researchers - This will benefit other future researchers who wishes to have
comparable studies. Data from the result of this study which is able serve as layout to adjust their
research.

Theoretical Framework

Class Scheduling System will be created specifically for the school/university to provide

accuracy, speed and effective class schedule.

Efficiency is easy to use whether in single or multi-user application that helps students

and school administrators quickly schedule students’ classes. The software is ideal both for high

school and college. The idea behind Class Scheduler is to increase the productivity of classroom

administrators by automating the class scheduling process. Class Scheduler also has visual

scheduling features. Classes can be deleted, added and assigned to different rooms by the

instructor right from the schedule view. Class times can even be moved around using drag and

drop, adjusting or by resizing individual classes.

Conceptual Framework

This study aims to assess the class scheduling system of the schoo/university in terms of
speed, accuracy and efficiency. When the performance of the current system is low in terms of
speed, accuracy and efficiency, the class scheduler system is highly recommended.

Statement of the Problem

1. Manual system is very time consuming and close to making a mistakes.

2. Making a tabled style schedule can be difficult for a human to make.

3. Storing a paper full of schedule can be a space saver to the school or university.

4. Overlapping of faculty schedule, schedule time, and room occupation is very

common if you are processing it manually.

5. Manual searching for the faculty and section schedules is also time consuming.

6. Ineffective scheduling can cause a pause to the school or university operation.

Definition of Terms

In order to provide clear interpretation of basic concept used in this study, the following terms are
conceptually and operationally defined.

Accuracy – The degree of closeness of a measured and calculated quantity to its actual
(true value) (http://en.wikipedia.org). Operationally, this is used to measure the correctness in
preparing class schedule.

School – Provides quality general education to enable students to think critically,

communicate effectively, complete accurately and adapt to change appropriately Operationally, in
this study, it is the cooperating agency where the study was conducted.

Class Scheduler – known as college style scheduling, is a form of hand scheduling that
uses information from the Master Schedule and produces cards or labels with the course
information printed on them. Operationally, as used in this study, it is the Automated Class
scheduler proposed by the researchers.

Efficiency – In mechanics, the measure of the effectiveness with which a system

performs. Operationally, it is used to measure the effectiveness of class schedule.

Faculty –The entire teaching staff of a university, college, or school, including any
administrators holding academic rank (http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com). Operationally,
it refers to the faculty of school/university who were one of the respondents of the study.

Speed – The rate at which something moves or travels. Operationally, it refers to how
fast the preparation of the class schedule of the school/university is done.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

• The system is full accessibility is limited to the in-charge personnel only.

• The system can identify if the selected faculty, room or section is occupied.

• The faculty can also access the system but with limited features.

• The system can print faculty and section schedule.

• The system can backup database in case of system reset.

• The system is only for making a faculty class schedule.

• The system only deployed to the school network (local network).

• Only the admin is allowed to add, edit and delete users.

• The system is just a support, and the decision of which among the solutions
generated will be implemented still lies to the authorize personnel.

• The displayed information is depending on the input data of the authorized

personnel.
