4. When people are cyberbullied, how do you think does it make them feel? How do you think
does it affect them?
5. What do you think is the right thing to do if you see someone being cyberbullied? You may
now introduce the concept of ‘bystanders’ at this point.
6. When is someone considered a bystander? (A bystander is someone who just observes and
do not do anything even if bullying is already happening)
7. Ask the students if they have ever been cyberbullied or if they know someone who has been
cyberbullied.
8. How do the students feel if they are being cyberbullied?
9. As a good netizen, what are the students supposed to do to avoid, prevent and block
cyberbullying?
10. How can the students apply these lessons in their daily online activities?

III. DISCUSSION

What are the signs of cyberbullying:

 Mean, vulgar or threatening messages

 Posting rumors or false info to humiliate a person
 Posted sensitive or private info of a person
 Pretending to be someone else to make the other person look bad
 Intentionally excluding someone from a group
CASE STUDY

Be aware of self-harm or suicidal tendencies. A 13-year-old girl from a high school in Laguna
made this image on a school computer. She told her teacher that someone kept texting her and
sending her violent images calling her “emo.” (“emo” is a slang term for the word “emotional”)
Talk to the students that Cyberbullying might sometimes lead to physical harm as seen in the
case study. Students should realize that Cyberbullying has lasting impacts to children, both
online and offline.

ASK STUDENTS WHAT TO DO WHEN BULLIED

 Set account to Private
 Ignore the bully
 Block and report the bully
 Take a screenshot of the incident for future reference
 Talk to a trusted adult

WHAT ARE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF CYBERBULLYING

 Depression
 School absence
 Withdraws from friends
 Low self-esteem
 Resorts to drugs
 Eventually leads to suicide

NOTE: Remind class of confidentiality whenever a case has been brought up.
Any personal case shared should not include actual real names.
Respect for one another as the class progresses.
In cases where someone is cyberbullied, it is best to talk to the student and refer to the child
welfare protection program committee.

I. OBJECTIVE:
 To identify unsafe content seen online
 To recognize effects of sharing unsafe content
 To exercise responsibility and cautiousness in sharing images and content online.
THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK!

II. GROUP ACTIVITY:

By groups, let the students list down all kinds of images they see on the internet. Identify each
item either under: SAFE CONTENT, RISKY CONTENT, UNSAFE CONTENT

QUESTIONS:
1. What are the things you see online?
2. What are considered safe, risky and unsafe? Why?
3. What do you usually share online and why?
4. What are the things you need to consider when sharing online images and content?
5. What is safe content? Will not pose threat or danger to you or your loved ones
6. What is risky content? Questionable content which might not necessarily dangerous, but might
put you at risk if used inappropriately (e.g. sexy selfie)
7. What is unsafe content? Anything that may threaten and pose dangers to you and your family
(e.g.naked selfie)
The internet is a place and space where you do not have absolute control of the content you
share, so THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK!

LESSON 4 - ONLINE FRIENDS/RELATIONSHIPS

I. OBJECTIVES
 To define” friending strangers online”
 To identify potential risks of friending strangers online
 To develop healthy online friending behaviour.
 To be aware of the risks involved in romantic online relationships
 To realize the role and importance of self-respect in online relationships.

Observation: Most teenagers use the social networking sites as a medium for gaining
popularity or publicity.

II. DISCUSSION

WHAT ARE POTENTIAL RISKS IN ACCEPTING FRIENDS ONLINE?

 Not all people you add as friends are really who you think they are
 Online strangers may access your account and use your info without consent
Online strangers might also be grooming for sexual purposes
III. STORY

A news story came out about two “online friends” who decided to eyeball. The girl was only 13
y.o. while the guy is actually 45 y.o. not 20 as he said on his profile. The girl was lured and was
sexually abused.

CHOOSE WHOM YOU WOULD BEFRIEND

CASE STUDY:

You have been friends with a boy you met online. Lately he has been saying things like:
“We have known each other for a while; can we be boyfriend/girlfriend?”
“Do you believe that even if we have not seen each other personally, I already fell in love with
you”
“Since we are already boyfriend/girlfriend, why don’t you send me a photo of you, something
personal, something only people in a relationship share”

QUESTIONS:

 Can we always control the situation when we are in an online relationship? How?
 Can you say some uncomfortable situations/interactions between strangers online?
 How do you know if a romantic online relationship is getting risky?
 Is it worth to engage in an online relationship?

REMINDERS:

 Change topic when you are not sure where the conversation is going to
 Log off, quit, unblock.
 You may create a new account.
 Talk to a trusted friend or adult. It is best to have someone who supports you.

IV. EVALUATION

When you befriend someone online and get into a relationship with them, the foundation
of your relationship is not stable. Remember that you will not know someone deeply
unless you interact with her/him on a personal or face to face basis. Relationships,
whether friendly or romantic in this setting will not guarantee to last. Many are deceitful,
hiding their real identity which would may cause you harm in the future. As a student,
you have already established your priorities. Being side tracked would not get you
anywhere.

I. OBJECTIVES
 Identify what sexting is
 To be aware of the potential risks of selfies and sexting
 To determine the value of self – respect in taking selfies and sexting

II. ACTIVITY

Read the following story as a group:

Boy and Girl have been in a relationship for months. Boy asked Girl to send him a sexy photo of
herself. She agrees but only if he sends a sexy photo of himself first. He sends a funny photo of
himself in his underwear. She in turn sends a naked photo of herself only wearing a hat. Boy
shares the photo to his best friend making him promise not to share to anyone else. Best friend
does the opposite, shared the photo to many others via group message. The next day, Girl’s
photo has been shared over 2000 times online.

QUESTIONS:
 Why did Girl send her photo
 Why did Boy shared her photo
 How must have Girl felt knowing her naked photo went viral
 What could have Girl done to avoid the risks of having her photo sent to others?
 Is there anything else that can be done about her shared photo

III. DISCUSSION:

1. What is selfie?
Taking a photo of oneself and uploading on social media

2. What is sexting?
Sending of provocative or sexual images by mobile phone

MAJOR TIPS:
1. Be careful in uploading online. Always keep personal info in private
2. Select selfies that will give a positive image of you
3. Post wisely
4. Do not be afraid to seek help from trusted adults

SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES:
 Invisible viewership
 May be forwarded to anyone, anytime, anywhere
 Impossible to remove or control access to it
 Images are usually used for harassment/bullying
 May cause permanent damage to you
What to do:
 If you sent an image to someone, ask them to delete it
 If it has been posted or shared, ask a trusted adult to help you
 Never forward a sext
 Tell the person to stop sending you sexts. You can block or unfriend him
 You need not sent a nude photo of yourself to prove that he/she loves you

IV. EVALUATION:

How will you now treat the internet?

Remember that Addiction is to become preoccupied with a thing, person, or activity because it
satisfies a NEED. What particular need do you have to address?

LESSON 6 – ONLINE GAMING AND GAMBLING

I. OBJECTIVES
1. The effects of online gaming
2. To identify addiction as one o
3. f the risks
4. To realize that gaming is designed to be addictive
5. To determine when online gambling happens
6. Be aware of the risks of on line gambling
7. To value the importance of saying NO to online gambling

II. EVALUATION

Anything and everything that is abused is dangerous. Addiction to online games and
gambling happens when one gets too caught up in it that it is the only thing that
person wants to do. More important things are sacrificed like school attendance,
allowance, health, relationships.

As students, we must remember our priority is our studies. Time should be well spent
because time is precious.

III. Closing Prayer – that the students will be wise and value the technology they have
today; that they would know what would be a distraction for them and their studies.
