Arid

Most arid (dry) climates, such

as large deserts, lay on either
side of the equator, along the
30 degree latitude. Some arid
CLIMATES (dry) climates can also be
found in the centre of large
continents.
Arid (dry) climates experience
two seasons, summer and
winter. Although arid (dry)
climates experience two
seasons, the climate is dry, hot
and sunny all year round. It
can be extremely hot during
the day, but at night it can get
very cold.
Due to a lack of water and low
annual rainfall, there is
minimum vegetation in an arid
(dry) climate. Plants that
survive in this climate require
very little water, or can store
water for long periods of time.
The vegetation often has long
roots and thorns. Cactus,
succulents, bush and cholla
(spiny treelike cacti) are
common.
An example of an arid
(dry) climate is the Sahara
Desert in North Africa.
