Impulse and Impulse Momentum Theorem

 Impulse is the impact of force.
NOTE
A footballer kicks a football of mass 0.3 kg and it gains a speed of 10 m/s. If
his foot remains in contact for 10 ms, then find
1. Change in momentum of the ball
2. Impulse of the force
3. Average force
NOTE

A player hits a billiard ball of mass 500g by an impulse of 100 N-s. Find
1. the speed attained by the ball
2. the average force applied on the ball if the time of impact was 5 ms.
NOTE
Illustration: A spring loaded gun exerts a force F=2t on the bullet. Find the
impulse of the force in 5 seconds.
NOTE
Illustration: In the previous problem, find
1. the speed the bullet gains in 5 seconds if the mass of the bullet is 200 gm.
2. the average force that acts on the bullet in 5 seconds?
NOTE
Illustration: A ball of mass 500 gm is dropped from a height of 45 m. After
hitting the ground the ball rebounds to a height of 20 m. If the air resistance
is neglected and the ball spend 10 ms in contact with ground, then find the
impulse applied by the ground on the ball?
NOTE
NOTE

Illustration: In the previous problem, find the average force applied by the
ball on the ground?
NOTE
Illustration: A ball of mass m hits a wall at speed v at an angle θ with the
horizontal and it rebounds at same speed and at same angle. Find the impulse of
the force applied by the wall on the ball?
NOTE
Illustration: A batsman hits an incoming ball of mass 200 g and changes its
direction by 600 without changing its speed of 40m/s. Find the impulse
applied by the bat on the ball?
NOTE

Illustration: Force-time graph is as show in the figure. Find the impulse of the
force in 10 seconds.

NOTE
In the previous problem if the initial speed of the object was 2m/s, then find
the speed after 10 sec?
