The New Grades 7–10
The Phoenix Language Package: Skill Builders for English Proficiency (PLP: SEP) offers a
development program designed to help high school students gain competence in English. Through
mastery approach, the series aims to equip the learners with relevant real-life skills not only
to meet the demands of the times but also to acquire enduring understanding, which leads to
lifelong learning.
ZZ As the main text in an intensive course for mastering the English language
Components
The Worktext contains lessons, exercises,
and activities that develop language skills
through listening, speaking, grammar, and
writing.
The exercises in each component follow the mastery approach to skill development —Starter,
Reinforcer, and Challenger.
The Learning Guide, which is a sample for the teachers on how to guide their students, will
help the students realize that the communication skills they learn and master are not just for
the present but are for lifelong learning. Thus, goals are set so that lessons learned and skills
mastered today are useful in the future.
The Syllabus presents a course map that allows teachers and coordinators to see the scope and
sequence of each level “at a glance.” It also includes the values that are embedded in the lessons.
The PLP: SEP soundtrack is a creative add-on. We call it the Listen and Learn Channel, which
is a CD for the tapescripts used in listening activities in each level.
The Phoenix Learning Package (PLP) is a series of four-level worktexts that refines and
reinforces the reading skills of high schoolers. It offers a developmental reading program that
enables high school students to master the reading competencies they acquired in the elementary
grades.

Transforms knowledge of students to thinking and problem solving skills essential to the
development of deep conceptual and procedural understanding of mathematics
Essential Mathematics
The Essential Mathematics series was prepared by a group of mathematics educators who
assume significant roles in reform movements in basic mathematics education in the country.
Their classroom experiences and research-based pedagogical content knowledge were used in the
design of instructional materials anchored on the theory of active construction of knowledge. The
features of the book include but are not limited to the following:
ZZ Engages students in concept building through activities in “Time to Discover” that trigger self-
reflection, exploration, and investigation
ZZ Encourages critical discourse and negotiation of meaning among the students as they find the
link of their old knowledge with the new mathematical concepts in the discovery activities
ZZ Provides students with opportunities to make conjectures and inferences about the algebraic and
geometric properties and relationships
ZZ Utilizes an interactive format that allows students to respond and articulate their ideas; and the
teachers to diagnose student thinking for possible alternative conceptions
ZZ Coaches teachers to utilize technology in the classroom including indigenous ones like the patty
paper, and modern ones like handheld calculators or computer softwares
Components

The Syllabus uses the three steps for transformative learning as the framework. It lists
the learning competencies, goals, and objectives of every topic, strategies appropriate for the
attainment of conceptual understanding and procedural skills, assessment tools that measure if
the goals were attained.

ng bansa bago ang kolonyalismo, panahon ng mga Español, ng Amerikano, at ng pagsasarili.
Isinaalang-alang din sa aklat ang pagtalakay sa ating mga naging konstitusyon (1899, 1935,
1973, at 1987).

ZZ The contents of the worktexts are organized along four major themes (having their origin partly
from the DepEd Values Education Continuum and from the CEAP Superintendents’ Commission
Transformative Education project in 2002).
ZZ The discussions in the series include: Man/Woman Gender Sensitivity; Man/Woman and their
Environment; Man/Woman as Citizens; and Man/Woman, Builders of Justice and Peace.
ZZ The New Grade 7—I Am a Child of the Universe is intended to help the students understand
themselves, that they are born with talents and wisdom which should give them confidence to
handle whatever obstacles that may come their way. The students will be guided to discover their
nature, their family roots, gender orientation, their uniqueness, and fundamental rights and
duties.

Worktext employs the value-clarification and action-learning approaches in putting one’s values
to the fore and in encouraging personal and social action based on these values. Each has a glossary
explaining terms as they were used in the text so as to avoid misinterpretation. Every lesson has a
module preview presenting as an overview of what the lesson is and a set of desired objectives to be
satisfied after each lesson.
Teachers Guide provides additional lessons as well as suggested class activities and exercises.

ZZ Teachers Guides, Learning Guides, and Syllabi are readily available for teachers to use; they
provide answer keys, additional exercises, and suggestions for doing the different lessons.
Our Way to God is a worktext series for Junior High School intended to guide learners in the
course of their education in Christian Living.
ZZ Lessons reveal the doctrinal treasures of the Catholic Church and how these can be observed in
the encounters of modern youth.
ZZ The lessons aptly follow the four parts of the Catechism of the Catholic Church—the profession of
Faith, the celebration of the Christian Mystery, Life in Christ, and Christian Prayer.
ZZ Learners are encouraged to read through Church documents so they may personally adhere to
the faith we together discover, grow in, celebrate, and radiate to the rest of creation.
ZZ The series unpacks thoughts and practices we can claim as expressions of the New
Evangelization talked about by Pope Francis.
ZZ Topics deal with integral faith formation for the youth especially the life of prayer, care for
the poor, primacy of the Eucharist as summit of worship, evangelizing the Filipino family, the
laity’s role, service to the Parish, living Communio in the Sacramental life, call of the Clergy and
Religious, care for creation, Ecumenism—anchored in the Words of Scriptures.
Finally, OWTG series intend to develop in each learner the spirituality of the heart necessary
to face the vision of the 5th Centenary of Christianity in the Philippines—to make of our youth
missionaries at home and abroad, imbued with the holistic K to 12 program.
