SeaCURE:
incorporates “Marine Growth Prevention” on Filter unit
The SeaCURE system has IMO/USCG AMS approvals for all salinities (fresh,
brackish and sea)
The SeaCURE BWMS utilises one of the most robust ballast water filters available
· Filter passed tests at Great Lakes Initiative (GSI) site on Lake Superior at 50 - 60 mg/L suspended solids as a part of the
SeaCURE™ system
· Low backwash flow – typically 1 - 5% of the BW flow
· Low Pressure Drop – 0.35bar
· Reliable patent-pending backwash mechanism
Filter:
· Filter capacity 750 m3/h, BW Flow: 600 m3/h
· Filter + valve + control logic
· Turbid water: filter backwashes every 6 minutes in
Valero Benecia, CA (San Francisco Bay)
SeaCURE:
· Filter capacity: 1,500 m3/h, BW Flow: 1,200 m3/h
· Filter + Evoqua’s peripheral equipment + Evoqua’s
control logic
· Extremely turbid water: filter flushes every 1 minute
in Yangshan, China (Yangtze River Delta)
A single electrolyser unit can treat twin ballast lines using multiple
dosing pumps, if desired.
The “core” of the SeaCURE system uses Chloropac technology; a system designed and developed over 40 years
ago and widely used today to combat marine growth in sea water cooling circuits.
• Decades of experience
CHLOROPAC is the trademark of Evoqua Water Technologies for an Electrolytic OVERALL REACTION:
Sodium Hypochlorite generating system which operates on the principle of NaCl + H2O
DC current
NaOCl + H2 Gas
electrolysis of salt water. Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) provides a cost-efficient
alternative to using bulk chlorine.
The Chloropac cell design uses Concentric Tubular Electrode (CTE) technology. Chloropac
cells comprise polarised titanium tubes - one inside the other - with the seawater
(electrolyte) flowing through the annular space between the inner and outer tubes
(electrodes).
+ -
Sea Water - +
The CTE cell is designed with sufficient flow-through velocity to continuously self-flush the cell during
operation. This prevents calcareous deposits from building up on the cell’s electrocatalytic surfaces.
Self-cleaning –
· No scale
· No need for acid wash or polarity reversal maintenance
Superior performance –
· Proprietary Platinum coating
· Extremely durable and efficient at water temperatures as low as 0⁰C
· Resists contamination with manganese or iron oxide in polluted water
· Life expectancy of the cells is 60,000 hours depending on operating conditions.
The Chloropac cell system is modular – scaling a wide range of different outputs is simple and accurate
Tests concluded that the SeaCURE BWMS control logic and dose level mitigates the possible corrosive effect of
chlorine addition to ballast water piping and tanks.

Stray Current
Hydrogen production is a by-product of the Electrochlorination (EC) process: the amount of hydrogen produced
is proportional to the amount of hypochlorite produced.
