Description 700 Service Information 2014/6/26
Profile:

Description
The hauler consists of two frame parts, tractor unit and trailer unit. The units are joined via a combined steering and frame
joint, called the hitch.
The steering joint provides movement around a vertical axis for steering. The frame joint allows the two frame units to move
relative to each other around a horizontal axis.
Tractor unit frame
The frame is built from closed square box section members.
Cab, engine, transmission and dropbox are mounted in the frame on rubber elements.
The fenders at the front contain hydraulic oil tank, fuel tank, batteries and headlamp.
At the centre section of the frame there are brackets for attaching cross stay, hexagon stay, steering cylinders and
components of the suspension system.
The front axle is mounted in a special frame called the A-stay and supported sideways by the cross stay and the hexagon
stay.
The A-stay works as an anti-roll device and is at the rear connected to the frame via a rubber bushing, which allows the axle
to oscillate and move vertically.
Trailer unit frame
The main part of the trailer unit frame consists of two longitudinal frame members. The frame members are connected by
two welded cross members and a front section, which is made from square closed box members.
The front section holds the frame tube with bearing locations for the frame joint.
The tipping cylinder brackets are welded onto the two longitudinal frame members.
The two centre cross members also have points for attaching the link bearings of the A-stays for both axles. Sideways the
axles are supported by two cross stays which, via rubber bearings, are attached to brackets in the frame.
The bogie members are attached to the drive axles through rubber elements and carried in a rubber bearing in a bracket
welded onto the respective frame members.

E 1645 Dump body support

The fit-up of the rubber cushions against the top of the trailer unit frame should be checked regularly.
The first check should be carried out in connection with the 100 hour service and then every 1000 hours.
At the same time the sideways guiding of the dump body should also be checked.
Material:
Use shims according to the Parts Catalogue for adjusting the rubber cushions and the sideways guides.

WARNING
Under no circumstances may any person remain under the raised dump body, if it has not been made safe.

Use the dump body support E 1645 for securing the dump body.

1. Carry out all checks with an empty dump body lowered against the frame and with the tipping control in position 2
(lowering/floating position).

2. When adjusting make sure that the clearance / compression is the same on both sides on the trailer unit frame.

3. The rear rubber cushions (2) and (3), positioned over the bogie, should fit up against the frame and be compressed
1–3 mm (0.04–0.12 in). The rear cushions are more compressed than the front ones. The front cushions (1) should
have a clearance of 2–6 mm (0.08–0.24 in) against the frame. See [Invalid linktarget] .

Figure 1

Tightening torque: 50 N m (5.0 kgf m) (37 lbf ft)
 Install the inner bearing race.

29. Install the inner bearing race for the upper bearing.
Install the outer bearing race so that it comes flush with the steering joint lug.

CAUTION
Do not drive down the bearing so far that a preload arises.

30. Adjusting the bearings

CAUTION
The bearings must be rolled in before the bearing covers are installed.

Install the bearing cover without shims and tighten down the cover with four evenly distributed bolts to 25 N m
(2.5 kgf m) (18 lbf ft) at the same time as the bearings are rolled one way and then the other.
Tighten down the cover evenly.
Loosen the bolts fully and then tighten them down lightly against the cover.

31. Measure the clearance between bearing cover and steering joint lug in at least four places, see [Invalid linktarget] .
Calculate the average and reduce this by0.25–0.30 mm (0.010–0.012 in). This value is the thickness of the shims
required to create the correct preload.

Figure 13

32. Remove the bearing cover, install shims with the calculated thickness and tighten down the cover to 50 N m
(5.0 kgf m) (37 lbf ft).
